PA Lottery Reports Record Sales

PALotteryThe Pennsylvania Lottery has released its annual report on the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

Over the last year, the Lottery set new records in terms of total sales, net revenue, and total amounts paid to winners.

For this current fiscal year, the lottery made $4.13 billion in total sales. Of that, $2.64 billion was paid out to winners. Both represent new records for the PA Lottery.

86 Pennsylvanians received more than $1 million from their winnings.

The lottery system then sent a record $1.20 billion to the state for various programs.

Net revenue from the PA Lottery goes to fund prescription drugs, property tax rebates, long-term living centers, and senior centers.

Finally, the Lottery was able to reduce the percent amount that went to fund the administrative aspects of the Lottery going from 1.98% to 1.89% this year.

  1. The lottery spent $22,185,379 for personnel. I would like to know how many employees work for the Lottery Bureau, given that the #1 and #5th most popular non-instant game as measured by sales (Powerball and MegaMillions) that are administered elsewhere.

  2. This conflicts with talking points about government inefficiency, thus we should privatize it! Those profits belong to the private sector, not old people who are too lazy to get a job!
