PA-Sen: Daily Kos Rates PA as “Lean Republican”

Pat ToomeyDaily Kos is one of the most popular and well-known liberal blogs in American politics.

Even they believe Pat Toomey has a slight but notable edge in his battle for re-election.

They classify the 2016 PA Senate race as “Lean Republican” as does other prognosticators like the Cook Political Report and Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball.

David Nir, the author of the site’s first 2016 ratings, asserts that Toomey has done a good job of covering up his conservatism with a moderate veneer.

“The question for Democrats is whether they can pull off that mask, or hell, just get people to vote a straight ticket. It won’t be easy, though,” Nir writes. “The party finds itself in an unhappy place: Ex-Rep. Joe Sestak is back for a repeat engagement, but the establishment despises him, fairly or not. So instead, they’re backing former state environmental secretary Katie McGinty…who took all of 8 percent in last year’s gubernatorial primary.”

“Either way, this rancorous primary isn’t doing Team Blue any favors,” Nir concludes. “Still, Pennsylvania’s blue lean keeps this seat on the table.”

The piece doesn’t mention Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, who jumped into the Democratic primary this week.

  1. In this grand scheme of things you receive an A just for effort and hard work. Where exactly you lost me was in the specifics. As as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And it couldn’t be more correct here. Having said that, allow me inform you what exactly did do the job. The article (parts of it) is certainly rather engaging which is most likely the reason why I am making an effort to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Next, while I can easily see the leaps in reasoning you come up with, I am not certain of how you appear to unite your ideas that make the actual conclusion. For the moment I will, no doubt subscribe to your issue but wish in the near future you actually connect the facts much better.

  2. Mc Ginty is as bad as Sestak…I was involved in the latest 2010 campaign and frankly it’s scary someone so clueless could rise to Vice Admiral.

McGinty is pathetic…her loooooog resume is not what counts ,if that ” her dad was a policeman” , but what she believes in,if anything ?

The Democrat Party should easily be able to defeat the Hong Kong Bankers candidate Toomey.
The man is a mess student clone of extremist rx Senator ,and the 21 St Centuries Herald Stassen ,Rick Santorum.

My goodness, get it together PA Democrats !
You cannot let someone so cruel, and against the average person get a walk next year ! Toomey just and can be beat !

  3. Dems would be smart to find an actual candidate that the average person can relate to. Mcginty isn’t that person. If she was she would have received more than 8 percent of the vote when she ran for governor. She is a complete joke.

  4. Given the over 90% reelection rate of incumbents, always predicting retention will give you a solid track record

  5. Hmm… They found an alternative to Sestak but the Democrat machine still doesn’t like their chances.

  6. lol – “McGinty…who took all of 8 percent in last year’s gubernatorial primary.” Wow. It’s going to be a tough year for Toomey let me tell ya.
