According to Alex Roarty of Roll Call, the ad buy is worth $1.1 million and will run in the Philadelphia market from August 23rd to September 5th.
The commercial starts by saying police have a “dangerous job” and shows clips of several shootings. Then, it says that Toomey, “will help law enforcement get the equipment they need” such as “Kevlar and armored vehicles” to keep police safe.
It closes by telling people to contact Toomey and tell him to continue to support the police.
Toomey has long touted his support for law enforcement and “rule of law” type proposals. This ad specifically mentions Toomey’s bill, the Life Saving Gear for Police Act. The act would undo President Barack Obama’s executive order tamping down on the 1033 program.
The 1033 program was aimed to sell surplus military equipment to law enforcement agencies. Most of the materials sold were things like clothes, flashlights, technology, etc. Police departments, however, could also acquire armed vehicles and high powered weaponry, some of which are now barred from being sold.
It is worthwhile to point out that Toomey’s stance closely aligns with Donald Trump’s “law and order” theme. The Senator has tried to distance himself from the GOP nominee on most other issues, although he has not outright rejected him, as some of his other colleagues have done.
