The Senator’s campaign announced today that they had accepted invitations to four debates this fall: October 6th – WVIA-TV/Bucknell University (Central Pennsylvania); October 13th – WGAL-TV (Harrisburg); October 17th – KDKA-TV (Pittsburgh); and October 24th – WPVI-TV (Philadelphia).
The McGinty campaign first agreed to the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia debates last month and challenged the Toomey team to do so as well.
Sen. Toomey’s campaign countered that they wanted to do additional forums in areas outside of the commonwealth’s two major cities. Their response weeks later is in line with that.
“Katie McGinty is trying to hide her extreme liberal views from voters outside of Pennsylvania’s largest cities, because she can’t defend herself and because she has said she believes voters outside the cities are ‘misinformed,’” said Toomey for Senate spokesman Ted Kwong. “Pat Toomey looks forward to debating Katie McGinty in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, AND in the mid-state.”
The Toomey team has tried to push the Democratic candidate to apologize for saying people in central Pennsylvania are “misinformed” in an interview with Jon Marks of the Jewish Exponent. Misinformed was Marks’ word, however, not McGinty’s.
PoliticsPA reached out to the McGinty campaign and asked if they’ve accepted the invitations to these four debates but has yet to receive an answer.
