PA Senate Preview: Southwest

State Senate Map

We continue our series on the Pennsylvania state Senate races with a look at the southwest. A reminder that only even-numbered Districts are up for election this season.

Race to Watch

HD 38: Lindsey Williams* (D) vs. Lori Mizgorski (R)

Williams is looking for a second term in the state Senate. She believes that healthcare is a human right and all Pennsylvanians should have high-quality and affordable access. Williams says she will invest in our schools so students and educators have the resources they need to succeed and fight back against any attempt to restrict women’s right to choose.

Mizgorski is a two-term state representative for District 30. She supports investing in education and school safety, and supports parents making decisions for their children and is working to reduce the cost of health care and increase access by supporting the expansion of telemedicine.

Dave’s Redistricting Partisan Lean: D+13.0

Voter Registration: D+15.2 (50.3 – 35.1)

Note: Williams defeated Jeremy Shaffer by 793 out of 124,000 votes in 2018. Mizgorski won reelection in 2020 over Melissa Shulman, 55-45%.

Contested Races

HD 32: Pat Stefano* (R) vs. Sydney Vegoda Hovis (D)

Stefano has served in Harrisburg since 2015. His priorities include protecting the constitutional rights of sportsmen and law-abiding gun owners, supporting voter ID, and giving parents more control and ensuring all children have access to a great education.

Hovis, a master’s degree candidate with non-profit experience, earned a spot on the ballot through a write-in campaign. She believes that reproductive health is not a black or white issue and legislators should not impose judgement into the decision-making process, will defend the rights of every law-abiding Pennsylvanian to purchase and own guns, and state revenue should be reallocated to give back to the rural regions for education.
