PA10: Perry Wins Fifth Term

The most closely watched congressional race in Pennsylvania has been won by the Republican incumbent.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) has earned a fifth term in Congress after defeating Democratic challenger Eugene DePasquale in the race for the 10th Congressional District. Perry leads DePasquale by just under 7 points with 95% estimated to be in. The AP called the race at 6:51 P.M. and DePasquale’s campaign sent out a statement conceding at 7:22 P.M.

Entering Election Day, multiple national outlets rated this race as a Toss-Up, while Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball even rated the race as Leans Democratic.

In addition to the attention from national outlets, this was also the one of the most expensive congressional races in the state. According to the final pre-election FEC filing, DePasquale raised $3.7 million during the election cycle-to-date, while Perry raised $3.5 million.

Perry often linked DePasquale to the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and criticized him over tax related policies, while DePasquale promoted his record as Auditor General and hit Perry over healthcare related matters.

In 2016, President Donald Trump carried these boundaries by nearly 10 points.

  1. Voters were left with the perception that Eugene was as big a crook as Johnny Doc, despite it not being true. Eugene never countered the charge.

  2. How poor a candidate did DePasquale have to be to get a smaller percent of the vote than the unknown George Scott two years ago?

  3. Dont feel to sorry for Eugene. Hes been kicking himself for getting into this race ever since Toomey announced that he wont run for re election to the Senate.

  4. Eugene was so alpha in his gym ad. I can’t believe he didn’t win with that. It was probably bitter men who didn’t want their wives lusting after him. This was almost as large a disappointment as Nina Ahmad spending another seven figures of her husbands money to get totally humiliated. Boy that’s gotta sting. I just can’t figure out why people dislike her so much.
