A strong second quarter from the Allegheny County Democrat and potential 2022 U.S. Senate candidate.

Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny) raised just under $980,000 from the beginning of April to the end of June, while spending slightly over $310,000 during that time period. Lamb has now raised just under $1.5 million in the election cycle-to-date.

He entered July with $1.77 million cash on hand.

According to Open Secrets, Lamb raised $4 million in the previous election cycle, which is the third most of any incumbent who was seeking reelection in the state’s congressional delegation. Just under $8 million was raised in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District during the previous cycle, making it the second most expensive race in the state in 2020. 

Lamb’s Q2 haul is significantly more than the amount he raised at the same point in the previous cycle and 2021’s first quarter. 

In 2019’s July filing, Lamb raised just over $280,000, while bringing just $430,000 cash on hand into the 3rd quarter. Last quarter, Lamb raised just over $410,000.   

Lamb had the closest reelection bid of any incumbent in the state’s congressional delegation in 2020. The Allegheny County Democrat bested GOP challenger Sean Parnell by just over 2 points to secure his second full term in Congress. 

The 17th District that Lamb represents went to Trump in 2016 by just a couple of points, although Joe Biden edged out Trump in the western PA District in the 2020 election. 

While several members of the state’s Democratic congressional delegation were once mulling a run for the U.S. Senate in 2022, Lamb is the lone candidate who is reportedly still interested in the statewide race. 

Only two Democratic declared U.S. candidates outraised Lamb in Q2 and only one candidate leads him with cash on hand as of now, should he enter the race.

Lt. Gov. John Fetterman has the early edge in the Democratic fundraising race for U.S. Senate. 

Fetterman raised $2.5 million in the 2nd quarter and entered July with $3 million cash on hand. Fetterman has raised more than $6.5 million since launching his campaign. 

Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh raised $1 million since entering the race in early-April to the end of June. She entered July with just over $630,000 cash on hand.  

Lamb outraised state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia), Dr. Kevin Baumlin, and state Sen. Sharif Street (D-Philadelphia), who is also reportedly weighing a run for U.S. Senate in Q2.

Lamb is one of four Democrats in the state targeted by the NRCC to flip in 2022, along with Reps. Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Chester) and Susan Wild (D-Lehigh).

However, Pennsylvania will lose a seat after redistricting, making it difficult for any challenger and incumbent to accurately size up their 2022 prospects.
