Peduto Airs Positive New Ad (VIDEO)

Pittsburgh mayoral candidate Bill Peduto will air a new ad in the final weeks of the campaign.

The video has all the hallmarks of a final late-in-the-campaign spot: a positive message, happy music, and a smiling candidate ready and enthusiastic to take office.

“We hope some things never change,” Peduto says at the open of the thirty-second spot. He names notable Pittsburgh landmarks Peduto hopes won’t change like Gus & Yia Yia’s ice ball stand, Pamela’s Dinner, Little’s Shoes, and of course the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I’ll answer to coach Jeff and Earl the streetsweeper, not the downtown insiders,” Peduto promises. “Some things should never change, but who your mayor fights for will.”

It’s a subtle swipe at outgoing Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, who Peduto long criticized for favoring business interests.

Peduto’s campaign will spend more than $85,000 to air on TV in the Pittsburgh media market throughout the week. It is likely, though not yet certain, that the campaign will also buy time to air next week as well in the lead-up to the November 5th election.

And it begs the question: why? Peduto is such a favorite that observers are wondering we he is spending down his campaign warchest.

In addition to the practical benefit of Peduto running up the score to solidify his mandate, it might have something to do with his fundraising activities. As a Councilman Peduto worked to enact the City’s campaign finance limits. But since an April court ruling suspended limits in this race, he has been busy bringing in as much cash as possible (normal limits resume after the general election).

Peduto has rebuffed the criticism, saying he takes his general election opponents seriously. Spending a sizable chunk of change on a TV ad lends credence to those words.

  1. Greg, I’m not sure if you understand the primary meaning of the word “effete” – might want to have a dictionary handy before you waddle up to the big boy table, “sucka.” But if you are looking at the secondary meaning, then you inadvertently struck on the fact that I am a woman. Congrats, maybe you’ll meet one of our gender some year.
I supported neither Old Man Jack nor Mayor Oppie. So, boom goes another of your theories. My candidate of choice has yet to make his play.
Sorry if I offended anyone who loves Bill but in the absence of Lukey, Pittsburgh will see that the new emperor has no clothes (that fit.) (Besides his girdle…)

  2. Using the term “effete” to insult somebody probably says a thing or two about whether or not you yourself are effete.

I am sorry for you that you must have supported either the guy who lost big time or the guy who is about to do big time.

    BOOM, SUCKAS!

  3. A huge part of Peduto’s platform during the primary was that he actually gives a duck (pun-intended). His efforts to continue aggressively campaigning despite having zero, even remotely threatening opposition, illustrates he actually does. Peduto is a workaholic, policy wonk and Pittsburgh is ducky to have him.

  4. Wow some of these wagner supporters just cant get over it.dont worry im sure wagner will launch another pathetic losing campaign soon.

  5. What an ugly, obese, alcoholic, effete mess of a human being. The 5% of Pittsburgh that showed up to vote for this weirdo are in for a rude awakening.
