Pennsylvania’s Leading Conservative Lawmaker Takes Over as Majority Chairman of PA House State Government Committee

Pennsylvania’s Leading Conservative Lawmaker Takes Over as Majority Chairman of PA House State Government Committee

HARRISBURG—State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) has been named Majority Chairman of the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee.

‘“Where liberty dwells there is my country,’ wrote Benjamin Franklin,” said Metcalfe.  “Now that I am Majority Chairman of the House State Government Committee this standard set forth by perhaps Pennsylvania’s greatest statesman, and one of the primary authors of America’s Declaration of Independence, will be the foundation for any public policy decision coming before this committee.  In short, every legislative initiative referred to this committee will be considered based on one overriding governing principle:  whether or not it protects, affirms or advances our God-given, not government-given individual liberties.”

The State Government Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of state government, including; proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, statewide initiative and referendum, legislative redistricting, election code reform, lobbyist disclosure, and campaign financing.

Recognized by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s “No. 1 Conservative,” and a multiple-time, highest-ranking lawmaker on the Pennsylvania Liberty Index, Metcalfe remains a leader on the issues of taxpayer protection, ending Pennsylvania’s illegal alien invasion, the preservation of Second Amendment freedoms, property tax elimination, outlawing teacher strikes and compulsory unionism.

Most recently serving as Republican Chairman of the Pennsylvania House Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, and as newly-appointed State Government Committee Majority Chairman Metcalfe looks forward to the opportunity of advancing the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment; election reform legislation requiring all Presidential candidates to officially submit proof of U.S. citizenship documentation; and his Arizona-modeled legislation to provide state and local law enforcement with full authority to apprehend Pennsylvania’s estimated 140,000 illegal alien invaders for deportation.

Much as he did to bring about the successful repeal of the 2005 state government pay raise, last September, Metcalfe introduced another discharge resolution to successfully advance his Arizona-modeled legislation (House Bill 2479) to the House floor for consideration—despite staunch opposition and extensive behind-closed doors legislative maneuvering by former State Government Committee Majority Chairman Babette Josephs (D-Philadelphia).

“A common theme shared by our federal and state Constitutions is that government was specifically designed to ensure justice in our society by protecting the rights of individual citizens,” said Metcalfe. “Whether it’s advancing legislation to permanently protect the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman or in the case of House Bill 2479, defending the lives, liberty and property of Pennsylvania taxpayers from the illegal alien invasion, this committee has an unprecedented opportunity to restore the proper role of state government to a fully accountable public servant that upholds our personal liberties, rather than eroding them.”

Metcalfe, who will be sworn into his seventh term in office on Jan. 4, looks forward to his new leadership position as Majority Chairman of the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee. For the latest legislative updates, visit RepMetcalfe.com.
