Philly GOP Chair Martina White to Step Down

Martina White

Chairwoman of the Philadelphia Republican Party Martina White announced Wednesday that she will be stepping down from that position at the end of her current term.

White assumed the role in November 2019, following the resignation of Mike Meehan. She was the first woman to lead Philadelphia’s Republican City Committee.

“I am proud of the record I have been able to build as Chair by uniting our committee members behind common goals,” White said in a statement. “We have recruited strong candidates, improved fundraising, increased communications with city residents, registered new voters in our Party, and put forth a commonsense issues agenda that focuses on putting the shared concerns of Philadelphia’s families first – things like public safety, fighting inflationary spending policies, affordability of taxes, and safe and open schools.”

White has represented the 170th District – consisting of part of the City of Philadelphia, including the neighborhoods of Bustleton, Millbrook, Parkwood and Somerton – since winning election in 2015 at the age of 26.

She also spoke about the Party’s efforts to be a counterbalance to the city’s Democratic machine saying, “One party control, regardless of that party, isn’t good for government and I am especially happy that the Philly GOP is once again respected as a competing voice of ideas and policies, as well as in pointing out the hypocrisies and failures of the opposition party’s leaders.”

“White said that she believes the committee members will be able to choose a successor who will continue the positive movement started during her tenure.”
