PHL-15: Bill Green for Mayor?

Bill-GreenBill Green, who was stripped of his position as Chairman of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission by Gov. Wolf earlier this month, might run for mayor.

According to Chris Brennan The Inquirer, Green changed his voter registration yesterday, from Democrat to “no affiliation,” and when asked about his intention to run for Governor, he admitted that he was “keeping all of [his] options open.”

Today marks the day that Independent candidates can start circulating petitions for nomination. However, Green must disaffiliate from any political party at least 30 days before that year’s primary election if he intends to run as an independent. He would have until August 3rd to collect 1,325 signatures. Democrats and Republicans only need to collect 1,000 signatures, but unlike Independents, signatures must come from those from within their respective party.

Green added that his “intention is to remain on the SRC for the balance of my term,” and that he “wanted to leave [his] options open,” again leaving open the possibility of a mayoral run.

“There’s no decision or inflection point that I can see,” Green said. “I just felt like it was worthwhile making this change at this time.”

  1. He should do something that gets him outside once in a while. His face looks more like a canned ham every day.
