PHL-15: Kenney Picks Up Endorsement from NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio

PPCWEED01C-600On the eve of the primary elections, Jim Kenney has received the support of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, one of the biggest national names to get involved in the Philly Mayoral race.

Kenney is the front-runner in the contest for the Democratic nomination but he is still hopping to get a boost from a progressive leader like De Blasio.

“The problems we face in NYC are not unique,” De Blasio said in an email to Kenney supporters. “Across the country, there’s a stark divide between those at the top and everyone else, and it’s getting worse.”

De Blasio asked voters in Philadelphia to commit to Jim Kenney and the “progressive vision” that he has been working to enact in NYC, from affordable housing to universal pre-K.

“Make your voice, and your vote, heard on Tuesday,” the New York Mayor stated. “Commit to vote for Jim, and commit to progress for Philadelphia.”

De Blasio went on to laud what he called Kenney’s lengthy progressive record, which includes standing up for LGBT rights in the 1990s and fighting for marijuana law reform.

“It isn’t easy to make ambitious progressive reforms into a reality, but Jim will take on the tough fights, and that’s why I’m asking you to commit to vote for him on Tuesday,” De Blasio concluded, before telling Kenney supporters to remind their friends to vote tomorrow.
