PHL-15: Williams: Did I Mention My Father Was Hardy Williams?

Hardy_WilliamsAnthony Williams has devised a new strategy to become the next Mayor of Philadelphia.

PoliticsPA has learned that the State Senator will double down on shifting focus from his own accomplishments to the legacy of his father Hardy Williams.

Hardy Williams, who also served in the State Senate and ran for Mayor in 1971, has already been featured in his son’s first political ads.

Now, though, at least half of every commercial will be devoted to describing the life of Hardy and presenting his son’s campaign as fulfilling unfinished business.

The campaign has even gone as far as to shrink the size of the candidate’s first name on all signs and posters. In fact, Williams’ advisors have toyed with other design’s including “Hardy Williams (son) for Mayor” and only including Anthony with an asterisk at the very bottom of each sign in small print.

“For all the talk of issues and platforms, elections are about personalities. They’re about who the voters know and trust,” a senior Williams aide told PoliticsPA. “And since our candidate doesn’t have much of a personality or record, it only makes sense to use his father’s.”
