PoliticsPA, Broad + Liberty Announce New Strategic Partnership For 2024

PoliticsPA, Broad + Liberty partnership

Pennsylvania will be at the center of the political world in 2024, and today two PA-based digital news outlets announced a partnership that will keep readers close to every statewide twist and turn.

Beginning today, Broad + Liberty and PoliticsPA will operate together in a strategic partnership. The relationship will expand Broad + Liberty’s growing impact in Harrisburg and statewide, and strengthen PoliticsPA’s capacity for nonpartisan campaign coverage. All staff from both outlets will continue in their current roles, including PoliticsPA Managing Editor Steve Ulrich and Broad + Liberty Chief Investigative Reporter Todd Shepherd. Working together with the current owners of PoliticsPA, Broad + Liberty’s current publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Terry Tracy, will oversee day-to-day operations.

PoliticsPA is the longest-running website devoted to Pennsylvania political news. It launched in 2001 as a clearinghouse for Harrisburg gossip and made the transition to hard news in 2007 when it came under its current ownership. Throughout its existence, PoliticsPA kept its focus on topics that matter to political insiders.

PoliticsPA Co-+owners Larry Ceisler, Jeff Jubelirer and David Urban: “The three of us come from different parts of the political spectrum, but we all share a deep appreciation for great reporting. We are proud of PoliticsPA’s track record over the past seventeen years including thousands of scoops and stories about our fascinating Commonwealth. The collaborative effort we’re announcing today with Broad + Liberty will ensure that the longest-running political news website in Pennsylvania continues to deliver great journalism for years to come.”

Founded in 2019, Broad + Liberty is known for its hard-hitting investigative journalism and coverage of the political landscape in southeastern PA. In 2023, it began to expand its coverage into Harrisburg and other key markets around the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Broad + Liberty Chief Executive Officer Terry Tracy: “In four short years, Broad + Liberty has made a significant impact in southeastern Pennsylvania with fact-based news and divergent political commentary that readers cannot find anywhere else. Our partnership with PoliticsPA will enhance our presence in the state capitol and add a new dimension to our coverage of statewide journalism.”

Readers can expect both Broad + Liberty and PoliticsPA to maintain their respective identities. The partnership will result in more and better coverage by allowing both outlets access to more resources, including technological support, staff capacity and expertise.

  1. We all knew Ceisler was a Republican. We didn’t know until today that he was a Yass Man. Sad to see.

  2. I know that financial considerations often require these, but losing an identity that you spent decades building is very disappointing.

In truth, I liked taking a look at this for tidbits of information about state politics.

Now, with this affiliation, I will look elsewhere.

  3. Selling out to B+L sure brought out the comments. Most I have ever seen on an issue. I never though PPA was pure to begin with. Now you reveal your true ID.

  4. Suggest you immediately spend some time and effort to get your website updated and modernized. To put it politely it looks like it’s from the 1990s when Netscape browsers were the latest thing. And no one cared about readability or a nice layout.

And stop publishing candidates press releases verbatim, look back to NOv and Dec 2023 when every article on the landing page was “so and so announces” they are running/rerunnig for office in “such and such district.” Why don’t you make a list or something, it seems lame to simply take whatever some candidate sends to you and publish it.

  5. This is extremely disappointing. PA Politics always highlighted all news- conservative, progressive, neutral. Partnering with a blatantly biased “news” platform is disturbing at best. I guess time will tell but it’s likely I will be unsubscribing from PA Politics for assisting in pushing such partisan crap in a year where we need balanced in neutral more than ever.

  6. I’m currently living outside Pennsylvania but grew up there and have a keen interest in the politics. I’ve spent time reading Broad and Liberty. Todd stands out as a competent journalist who has transitioned to a political operative laser focused on digging up dirt on the Ds and ignores misdeeds by the Rs. Many of the other contributors seem to be political analysts struggling to find employment. I’m optimistic that Steve will continue contributing to this site and maintain his impartiality. Time will tell!

  7. Wow…now we’re selling out to far right ideology. Congrats and see yah never again politicspa.

Hope the money is good 👍

  8. Include this website among those with concealed political leanings such as The Keystone (liberal), B+L (conservative), and DelVal Journal (conservative), which masquerade as authentic news sources. Broad & Liberty shares a similar bias with the Washington Free Beacon. The public is in search of genuine news!

    1. My usual go to site has been penn capital star, and so far I perceive them as middle with a slight hint of left leanings. But yes the websites you cited clearly have a bias. I see it as there are now state and local wanna bees popping up everywhere trying to mimic the business model of news corp., e.g., make money by pushing talking points in their chosen echo chamber.

  9. The situation presents a disappointing prospect for both PA and Politics PA. As someone with conservative views, I perceive Broad & Liberty as a hub for political operatives, predominantly targeting Democrats. Their approach is blatantly biased despite efforts to present themselves as a neutral news source.
