PoliticsPA’s 10/7 Ups & Downs

Pa Legislative Correspondents Association. The 81st annual Gridiron was a big success, and hilarious to boot. We’re not sure how much we’re allowed to say, since the whole shebang was off the record, but kudos to PLCA as well as the best acts of the night: the PA House Republicans and PA Sen. Daylin Leach (honorable mention to Gov. Corbett).

.

Dwight Evans. It’s never pleasant to read about “the fall” of one’s political career, and this Daily News article has a pretty thorough recounting of the former PA House Appropriations Chair’s recent decline. A number of things have broken against Rep. Evans, and it people are talking about the end of his political career like it’s inevitable.
.

Jason Altmire. No matter what happens with redistricting, the Congressman is in for a fight next year. Even without a primary with another member of the delegation, even if his district remained exactly the same, Obama’s low numbers in his district would make it a major battleground. His camp was rightly pleases when they rolled out his $375K fundraising total for the quarter.
.

Raja. Granted, this thing is far from over and we’ll see what the poll say in a week or two. The media war has just begun and Rich Fitzgerald’s numbers are less than solid. But a month away from the election, the Republican for Allegheny County Executive is down ten points in the first public poll of the race.
.

Bob Casey. The Senator chaired a JEC hearing this week with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke – a sign of his Capitol Hill clout. And his pet project bill about Chinese currency manipulation looks poised to clear the Senate. But he also voted with Sen. Harry Reid to use the nuclear option to change Senate rules and cut off minority debate on the legislation. That’s a bad move for someone who, if re-elected, will likely be in the Senate minority next session.

Patrick Murphy. Ed Rendell is a liability in a general election, but they say each politician’s most important race is his next one. Rendell still opens doors and boosts fundraising among Keystone State Dems, and Murphy scored big this week with the former Guv’s endorsement of his Attorney General campaign.
