PoliticsPA’s Ups and Downs: 2/11

PA House Republicans. The PA House was pretty productive this week: amending Megan’s Law and creating a website to see government expenditures. They avoided partisan strife as they passed six new reform measures. The pressure now falls on the Senate to act on these pieces of legislation.

.

The Rendells. Their separation this week garnered the bad kind of national headlines. And right before Valentine’s Day at that..

.

Tom Corbett. Gov. Corbett finally held a press conference. The press had criticized the Corbett Administration for having such a low profile but the Governor finally came out and answered questions for reporters. The question now is will the administration keep up better relations with the press, or will Corbett retreat back to his low profile?

David Wecht. His endorsement by Democratic state committee was good. The icing on the cake was the withdrawal from the race of opponent Bob Colville, who said he will defer to the party and will not run for the seat. This allows Wecht to keep his powder dry until the general election, something it seems his Republican opponent will not have the luxury of doing.

Kathryn Boockvar. Her endorsement by Democratic state committee will certainly raise Boockvar’s profile and it increases her chances for the nomination. However, with Barbara Ernsberger and others considering a run despite the endorsement, Boockvar isn’t out of the woods yet.

Vahan Gureghian. The biggest financial backer of the Montgomery County GOP flexed his muscle this week as the committee voted to endorse his candidate for Montco Commissioner, Lower Merion Commissioner Jenny Brown. She pulled more votes even than incumbent Commissioner and party loyalist Bruce Castor. (Brown 507, Castor 443, State Rep. Kate Harper 360).
