PoliticsPA’s Ups and Downs: 2/18

There was a little romance in the air this week, and we’re happy to recognize two nice guys who are getting married. The was less love, however, for many of the other folks on the list this week.

Linda Thompson. Simply put, worst week ever. A picture is worth a thousand words. That’s 4 words for every person who showed up to protest Thompson and demand her resignation this week. Her former spokesman Chuck Ardo (who, lest anyone forget, says he only took the position at the request of Ed Rendell) made a number of unflattering revelations about Thompson to the Patriot News. And if all that wasn’t enough, a less-flattering, even more rambling voicemail left by Thompson surfaced in the media.

.

Newly minted Chester County Commissioner Ryan Costello. Costello was sworn in this week to fill the unexpired term of PA Sec of State designee Carol Aichele and he also won the GOP endorsement to be on the ballot for a full term.  In fairness, Ryan probably already deserved an Up Arrow for getting PoliticsPA “Top Operative” Christine Thomas to agree to marry him.  The nuptials are planned for May.

Rick Santorum. The all-around consensus was that Santorum missed an opportunity at CPAC to stand out to thousands of conservative activists. No number of trips to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina can make up for an opportunity like that. And that’s on top of all the recent headlines about the former Senator’s google problem.

Jim Christiana. Congrats on the engagement, Representative. Let’s hope you weren’t so fiscally conservative with the ring.
.
.

PA Senators Scarnati and Solobay. These two made some big, bad headlines this week with their decision to attend the Super Bowl on the dime of Marcellus lobbyists. Note to legislators: voters no longer view “everyone else does it” as a valid excuse for questionable behavior.
.

Tom Fitzgerald. The Inquirer’s nationally recognized political journalist finally has a place to post all of his pent up snark! He started his blog, Big Tent, this week.
.
.

Pat Meehan. He helped save defense spending in his district from being cut in the budget, something Speaker Boehner cannot say.  On the other hand, these ethics problems just keep popping up.
.

GOP Senate candidate Marc Scaringi. He had a decent event a GOP state committee and even a little press. If you’re Scaringi, any time anyone is talking about you, it’s a good thing.
