Barack Obama’s lead in Pennsylvania has grown over the past month, a poll released today by Quinnipiac indicates. The results reflect a 5 point swing in the President’s favor since Q-Pac’s poll in early April which showed him within the margin of error, 45 percent to 42 for Romney.
“The president’s lead in Pennsylvania is across the board. He carries independent voters 45 – 36 percent,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “A slight majority says he deserves a second term and gives him a thumbs up for his job performance. He has a huge lead among women, while men go to Romney by a nose. Of the three states, Pennsylvania is the one in which the largest number of voters say the economy is beginning to recover.”
The pollster conducted similar surveys in Florida and Ohio; there Romney’s numbers are improving – he trails Obama by a single point in each state.
More important than the head-to-head numbers are opinions of Obama’s job performance. This survey shows significant growth by the President. By twin margins of 50 to 46 percent, votes approve of the job he’s doing and say he deserves re-election. Last month, those figures were 50 to 45 percent and 50 to 46 percent against Obama, respectively.
As far as Romney’s VP pick, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie led the field of PA’s choices. He took 28 percent of support among a list of 7 options. Florida Senator Marco Rubio took second with 15 points; all the rest were in single digits. Sen. Pat Toomey was not polled.
From April 25 – May 1, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,168 Pennsylvania voters using live interviewers via land lines and cell phones. The margin of error of is +/- 2.9 percent.
According to the pollster:
Pennsylvania women are wild about Obama, giving him a 52 – 35 percent general election lead. Men tip to Romney 44 – 41 percent.
The economy is in a recession, voters say 69 – 28 percent, but 56 percent say recovery has begun. Obama would do a better job on the economy, 44 percent of voters say, while 43 percent point to Romney.
The Supreme Court should overturn the health care law, 46 percent of voters say, while 43 percent say the court should uphold the law.
Pennsylvania voters approve 56 – 34 percent of the way Obama is handling Afghanistan, but say 61 – 30 percent the U.S. should not be involved. The pace of troop withdrawal is about right, 48 percent say.

The economy is cyclical. The schmuck holding office when it’s in the toilet will get the blame; the schmuck holding office when it’s ascending will get the credit. The have thought about it…As we saw the day of President Obama’s inauguration Republican leadership met to find a way to blame everything on Obama. The GOP for some reason can not accept the legitimacy of a Democrat in office. Obama has been a Godsend for The Right. They have found a way to blame him for everything wrong that has occurred in recent American history. I did not like Bush, but I never prayed and hope for him to fail.
Simple questions to those of you that still support Republicans in general – What are you going to tell your kids when they ask “Why did you support a party that saddled me with $16T (and rapidly growing) of debt? Why didn’t you do something about that debt before it got so large? Why do you start two wars that were unfunded? Why did you pass the Bush Tax Cuts which blew up the deficit?

Why didn’t you learn the lessons of countries like Greece, Italy, etc., when you watched them destroy their own economies with excessive government spending on social welfare and after implementing tax policies that attempted to make things “fair”, but actually took money from the very people that created jobs?”
Democrats took control of congress in the 2006 elections. They were given a federal debt of $8.5T ($2.7T of which was added by Pres. Bush and the Republican congress).
Since then, congressional Democrats have spent another $7.5T, our economy fell off a cliff 18 months after the ’06 elections, unemployment rose to over 10%, the housing market crashed due to liberal “everyone should own a home” policies, and the nation’s credit rating dropped for the first time in history. What’s worse is that during the only two prior times Democrats had both the majority in congress and the presidency in the last 40 years, our economies went into recessions and unemployment soared.
Haven’t any of you Democrats figured out that liberal politicians do NOT have the answers? If they did, where are the shining cities or states, lead by Democrats, that can be used as examples to show us all how successful liberalism can be?
