The results are in: 209 of our politically savvy readers voted in the latest PoliticsPA poll asking whether PA legislators would pass the state budget on time, and an impressive 71 percent of people correctly predicted that the budget would indeed be signed into law by the Saturday night deadline.
Perhaps last year’s successful passage of an on-time budget helped boost readers’ faith in state legislators. Or perhaps it was only logical to assume that the Republican-dominated Congress would be able to quickly squelch debate and reconcile any differences between their version of the budget and the Governor’s initial proposal, prompting him to grant his final approval.
The budget was passed in the House Thursday by a vote of 120 to 81 and then in the Senate the following day by a vote of 32-17. Corbett signed off on the bill Saturday with a slim 15 minutes to spare.
