PPP Poll: Obama Approval At 41%

Barack ObamaAdd President Obama to the list of chief executives who have suffered from the curse of the “Six-year itch”.

In a new PPP poll, the President recorded his lowest approval rating ever in the Keystone state, 41%. His disapproval stands at 50%.

Digging into those numbers reveals a gigantic gender gap. Pres. Obama’s approval is actually above water among women by a 46% to 42% margin. Among men, however, his approval rating sinks to 35% and his disapproval rises to 59%.

Among white voters, the President’s approval is only 38% but among black voters it is 66%. He holds a 48% to 42% advantage with “other” respondents.

The President is also much more likely to be received positively by younger voter than older ones. His approval rating for 18 to 29 year-olds is 43% with only 39% disapproving yet for those 65 and older it is 40% with a 55% disapproval rating.

Pres. Obama is having some trouble with his base as well as only 69% of Democrats approve of his performance with 22% disapproving. He is also underwater among independents (41% to 45%). Yet he still has the support of “moderate” voters by a 46 to 39 margin.

PPP surveyed 835 registered voters from May 30th to June 1st. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 3.4%. 80% of interviews for the poll were conducted over the phone with 20% interviewed over the internet to reach respondents who don’t have landline telephones.
