President Signs Critz’s Legislation to Name Indiana Post Office after Jimmy Stewart

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Mark S. Critz (PA-12) announced today that President Barack Obama has signed into law H.R. 5606, a bill that designates the United States Postal Service located at 47 South 7th Street in Indiana as the “James M. ‘Jimmy’ Stewart Post Office Building.”

“Indiana is proud of Jimmy Stewart,” said Critz, who introduced this legislation in June 2010.  “I am delighted that legislation to rename the South 7th Street Post Office in his honor has become law.  This is a fitting tribute to one of the most inspiring and patriotic actors of the 20th Century, and I look forward to the official naming ceremony.”

The bill, which was introduced by Critz and co-sponsored by the entire Pennsylvania House Delegation, passed the House of Representatives on September 30, 2010.  It passed the Senate on December 16, 2010 and was signed by the President on January 4, 2011.

A formal naming ceremony will occur in the coming weeks, with more information to follow.
