Reader Poll: Dent Should Be the GOP Nominee PA-15 Next Year

The results are in, and a plurality of our voters think that Congressman Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh) should be the GOP nominee next year in the 15th Congressional district.

As the possible primary challenge by state Representative Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh) heats up, including Dent releasing text messages between the two, the 15th district could become a major battleground for moderate Republicans against pro-Trump Republicans.

35% of the 3,327 responses said that Dent should be the nominee, 33% said someone else, and 32% said Simmons.

Who should be the GOP nominee in PA-15 next year?

  • Rep. Charlie Dent (35%)
  • Someone else (33%)
  • State Rep. Justin Simmons (32%)

    1. Yeah, add Simmon’s 32% and “somebody else’s” 33%, and Charlie has a big problem. All we must do now is to get Simmons out of the race and put Charlie on notice.

  1. Don’t know how anyone can trust Simmons after the talk of replacing Trump less than a year ago and now being an opportunist to be the “Trump Candidate” for the seat. Not to mention then lying about the timing of the text. I do not doubt that Dent will face a tough primary challenger in this district, but Simmons has proven to be deceiving, immature and short sighted. Three things we surely do not need in DC. I may not always agree with Charlie, but even when I don’t, I’d still side with him over someone with SERIOUS character issues.

    1. I know that I wouldn’t trust Dent. Why wasn’t the full text message released and some of it blacked out? That’s misleading!

      1. If it was truly out of context – Simmons could just release the whole context – he should have it too. But it wasn’t – that was just a whiney Simmons response.

      2. from the looks of it, it looked like Dent introduced Simmons to someone high up, maybe a Senator, another Congressman, a major donor. It is smart of Charlie to block it out and not bring that person’s name into this fray. HONORABLE. More than you can say about Simmons.

  2. It’s too early for a decision. Besides, we know that Dent has had his henchmen out in force to vote on this poll and to write comments all over the place. I for one will be voting for Simmons, as Dent has been a liberal democrat that uses the Republican party for way too long!
