PoliticsPA readers believe by a wide margin that Sen. Toomey’s foray into the gun debate help rather than hurt his re-election chances in 2016.
304 respondents (51% of respondents) said it helps the Senator. 172 said it won’t matter (29%) and just 122 (20%) said it would hurt his chances.
Toomey’s biggest boost would likely come from his openness to bipartisanship in support of a policy that roughly 85%-90% of Pa. voters support. His biggest draw would likely be a diminished level of support from gun rights advocates in his base.
(Side note: so does a real poll. Quinnipiac recently found Toomey’s job approval at its highest ever).

Pat Toomey is “Reaganesque”.
Toomey must be elated for receiving maximum praise for making little effort.
Consider that “his” compromise was the same law passed by a PA Republican Assembly and Administration, with support of the NRA, in the 1990s.
Also consider Toomey benefited from $3 million in NRA contributions, either through direct campaign donations or via negative advertising, in 2010. That amount is more than all Senate races between 2000-2010, combined.
It is a complete sham he is being lauded as a hero when the other key provisions, which would have given the gun control bill some merit, were rejected.
I hope the public sees past this farce eventually.
Will probably be forgotten by 2016.
