If PoliticsPA readers have their way, we’ll see a rematch of the 2010 Toomey-Sestak battle in 2016.
That year, Senator Toomey beat Sestak 51% to 49% in a heavily Republican year. it would definitely be intriguing to see what another battle between the two would be like.
314 readers voted for Joe Sestak as the person the Democratic party should nominate in 2016. This must come as especially pleasing news to the former Congressman and Admiral as he is currently the only one running. Sestak is off to such a head start that he is already picking up endorsements three years out.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Kathleen Kane finished second in our poll with 209 votes. Considering Kane has not expressed interest in the race as yet that is a respectable showing.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, however, didn’t come out as well earning only 95 votes. If the rumors about Nutter setting his eye on Washington are true he’ll have to do better than that in the coming months and years.
Finally, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald held his own with 68 votes.
The full results of the poll are included below:
Who should Democrats nominate for Senate in 2016?
- Joe Sestak (46%)
- Kathleen Kane (30%)
- Michael Nutter (14%)
- Rich Fitzgerald (10%)
Total Voters: 686

I’m not putting too much stock in this poll because:
1) Sestak is the only one on the list that I’d expect to run
2) The candidates I’d expect to run aren’t listed
3) Head to head, Kane is more popular than Sestak
Can someone explain why Dems should dump another $10 million (or more) into Sestak for a one-term senate run, when it will be a presidential year (and after Toomey’s shutdown vote) a long term Dem can win the seat?
After the Dem Gov primary, try running this poll again with the second place Dem vote getter against Sestak.
Kane will be on the ballot in ’16, as will Hillary…should be a great Dem year.
46%, Sestak will be hard to beat in the primary. It looks like his fence mending has paid off.
The only problem I had with the poll was that Sestak is the only person who would be on the ballot in 2016. Kane, Nutter and the other guy won’t.
Although, I could see Kane pull a MM/Shapiro where Sestak runs, wins and stays in one term setting it up for a more youthful Kane.
