It is rare for a sitting member of Congress to be indicted…well not rare, but still relatively uncommon.
So it’s no surprise that the announcement of 29 counts against Rep. Chaka Fattah captured the state’s, and the nation’s, attention last week.
Among the charges against the Congressman are such serious accusations like bribery, racketeering and money laundering.
Additionally, this scandal extends to Fattah’s wife and his son is dealing with his own separate troubles.
Given the depths of the legal trouble Rep. Fattah is in now, its worth asking whether the Congressman should resign.
Of course, while a resignation might appear satisfying, it wouldn’t necessarily provide the voters of the 2nd district with the full range of options.
As Holly Otterbein of Citified pointed out, if Congressman Fattah steps down in the near future his colleague Bob Brady would likely get to choose his replacement.
Considering all of this, we leave the question up to you.
