Reader Poll: Who Should Dems Pick in PA-8?

PA8 2012 Results Municipal
Fitzpatrick won by 13%+ in 2012

The 8th district is Democrats’ best opportunity for a congressional pickup in Pa. – albeit a tough fight against Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks). Who do you think is the party’s strongest choice in the race?

Right now businesswoman Shaughnessy Naughton and veteran Kevin Strouse have declared for the office, with the possibility looming of additional candidates.

  1. I heard the DNC is thinking about moving Anthony Weiner to PA’s 8th district … to run for Congress.

  2. Noting Mr. Panza’s observation, perhaps a fourth category should be added to your survey: “No one else”!

  3. Kevin Strouse is the best candidate to represent the 8th because he is highly intelligent and an extremely hard worker… Congress needs more like him!

  4. As I mentioned yesterday, the biggest “problem” is that the Bucks County Democrats simply have no bench, not are they attempting to build a bench.

They’ve voted for the Democrat in the last 6 Presidential elections; controlled the County Commission as recently as 25 years ago, and elected a Democrat to Congress 9 out of the last 19 times. Yet they hold ZERO State Senate seats, ZERO County Row Offices, and hold only 3 State House seats, clustered together in Lower Bucks. They need to be working on State Legislative seats before they start dreaming about Congress!

Of course, this isn’t entirely their fault. Democrats in the Southeast are obsessed with Congressional seats. In 2006 and 2010, when almost ALL of the Republican-held State Senate seats in the Southeast were up for election; the Dems made zero effort to compete in these seats. Even now, looking forward to 2014, you see multiple Democratic candidates talking about running for Congress, yet no one interested in running against Tommy Tomlinson and Chuck McIlhinney in Bucks Co; against Stewart Greenleaf or John Rafferty in Montgomery Co; against Edwin Erickson in Delaware Co; or even against Pat Browne in Lehigh Co. The Southeast PA Dems just do not have the State Senate on their radar. They only need 2 seats plus win the Governorship to win back the State Senate.
