Rebecca Warren to Run for PA Supreme Court Seat

Rebecca WarrenRebecca Warren, the current District Attorney of Montour County, has tossed her hat into the ring for a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Warren, a Republican, has been the District Attorney of Montour County since 2011. She was the first women to be elected to the position in the county.

After graduating from Dickinson School of Law in 1991, Warren worked for a small law firm in Bloomsburg, focusing on civil litigation, and became partner within one year. In the late 90’s, she joined the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office. During her time in this position, Warren authored the county’s first Child Abuse Protocol to minimize trauma to child victims.

In 2002, Warren opened her own law firm in Danville, Pennsylvania. The main focus of her firm was civil practice, including business law, family law, and estate planning.

As District Attorney, Warren has been active in prosecuting elder and child abuse cases.

Warren is the third person to announce their candidacy for Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, but the first Republican. Two weeks ago, Democrats Dwayne Woodruff and Anne Lazarus entered the race.

There are currently three open seats in the PA Supreme Court.

  1. Back on December 13, 2014 “Josh” wrote that Rebecca Warren was going to surprise everyone in the Supreme Court election because the “big boys” and big money were supporting her, let’s recap—she raised a grand total of $650 from two contributors….she received a grand total of 10 GOP State Committee votes….and the PA Bar Association determined she was “Not recommended”…the only one for the Supreme court to be rated that way!!! She finished a real distant 5th……great call Josh—were you one of her “big boys”? What a surprise!!!

  2. It was nice to talk with you at the Lebanon 9-12 meeting last month. On the AFA voters guide you answered No to the question: Do you believe the Federalist Papers play a significant role in helping us interpret the true meaning of the U.S. Constitution. Can you explain your response. Thank you.

  3. While Rebecca may be trying to place herself as a tough prosecutor that has experience she has a few skeletons in the closet that are not going to help her. She has a very strong record on prosecuting intellectually disabled people as criminals so that she can say she was a tough prosecutor. There certainly seems to have been a collaborative process between her and the Doctors at Danville State when they couldn’t properly regulate a client they would have them arrested for being aggressive and the let the criminal justice system handle the rest. What an injustice to the intellectually disabled, the court system, and the tax payers dollar. When this all shakes out it doesn’t matter what big money is behind her or what influential members of society favor her the real truth will be out and it will be hard to back a candidate such as this. This isn’t a partisan attack or ill will it’s just a matter of decency for the most vulnerable. While she was wooing the community to get promoted she could’ve been developing a process to build a mental health court and get the much needed treatment the intellectual disabled need not warehouse them in jail and throw away the key. This community and this state deserves better.

  4. Would like to invite Rebecca Warren to a Lycoming County Republican Women’s meeting. We meet February 23rd, March 16th and April 20th at Noon at the Genetti Hotel in downtown Willamsport. Please respond to this email address. I look forward to hearing from someone on the team.Thank you.

  5. The “big boys” are backing Rebecca Warren?? What a joke….and the “big money” is backing her?? Even a bigger joke!! The local newspaper the Press Enterprise just slammed her on their editorial page on Sunday….Soon the rest of Pennsylvania will know about the Mottern case……and it is but one shameful example of her lack of ability and experience.

  6. Elections are mostly a popularity contest. Anybody with money and connections can win. With that said, I don’t think she’ll win this election, but she will get a lot of votes and knock off some big names. I do think she will walk right into a Superior Court seat in two years. Her name is out there and she is well liked by the right people. Mark this post.

  7. Willy, or should I call you by your real name? You are way off here n clearly have a personal vendetta. The Isbell case was a mess because of the previous eak DA. Also, there were several child abuse cases where the defendants plead guilty; hence prosecuted. This forum is funny, all the bashers and lovers come out to give their clearly biased opinions! She’s gonna surprise in this race! The big boys are backing her and so is the big money. Check those facts.

  8. To “Chuck” and “Avgpennsylvanian”: You must be joking!! Warren has had only four jury trials in her limited three years as Montour DA….and very limited to the point of non-existent appellate work….And the only child abuse trial she prosecuted resulted in a not guilty verdict in FOURTEEN minutes!!! In one huge child abuse case she punted the matter to the AG’s office which declined to prosecute–(the Isbell case)…..Check your facts…..totally incompetent….

  9. I completely agree with both jim and B. J. that Kathleen Kane is grossly unqualified and she continues to prove that every day. Rebecca Warren, on the other hand, is eminently qualified and will prove that every day she is in office.

  10. I completely agree with Jim and BJ that Kathleen Kane was grossly unqualified, which she continues to exhibit every day. Rebecca Warren, on the other hand, is eminently qualified in dealing with the real life problems of meth labs, abuse cases, favoritism and corruption. Montour County is small, but it has the same problems everyone else has, and also a great D. A. to deal with them.

  12. Word downtown is that this woman might surprise in the election. She apparently is generating a lot of “buzz” and is gaining support from some influential people. Even if she doesn’t win one of the 3 seats in this election, she will be a strong candidate for the next Superior Court race, since that’s where the vacancies will likely be. Smart move by the Republican party getting her some exposure now. It’s all about strategy!

  13. Good DA and litigator who has done tremendous work on protecting children and handling drug crime, while being more in touch with Pennsylvanians than the rest of the bench. She has at least one Democratic vote.

  14. Tanya – Castille wasn’t exactly the best candidate either, and if you read his opinions, it shows.

  15. Should be a wide open race. With all the corruption in PA, there are no favorites and turnout will be low. With so many seats available, the votes will be evenly split and could go to anyone. Heck, I might even run, and I’m a mailman!!

  16. I guess Chief Justice Ron Castille was unqualified too since he went right from private practice to the Supreme Court. At least she will be able to fulfill her term, unlike Correale Stevens and some others, who can only serve a year or two before they must retire!
