Rendell and Wolf Host Biden Virtual Fundraiser

A pair of Pennsylvania Democrats teamed up on Wednesday evening to raise funds for former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

According to a pooled report from Yahoo’s Brittany Shepherd, former Gov. Ed Rendell and Gov. Tom Wolf, hosted a virtual fundraiser for the Biden campaign, alongside Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Grammy award winner James Taylor.

Both Rendell and Wolf boosted Biden’s candidacy to the approximate 430 people in attendance.

Rendell, a former DNC Chair who has helped fundraise for candidates for decades, commented about how easy it was to fundraise for this specific event, while also stressing the need to elect Biden.

“I want to tell you that this has been the easiest event I’ve never had to ask people for money for. Over 600 people contributed $500 to $50,000,” Rendell said, according to the pooled report. “It’s an incredible event.”

“I think America knows you’re the president we need, you’re the president we want. So good luck, go get ‘em,” Rendell added, after mentioning that people reached out to him asking how to fundraise for the Democratic presidential hopeful after Lafayette Park was cleared with tear gas

Wolf spoke towards the end of the event and lauded Biden’s leadership as necessary in the Oval office.

“I don’t know how many times Michelle you felt this, but every time we look to do something with some leadership in Washington […] we just wonder how wonderful it might be if we had someone like Joe Biden in that office,” Wolf said according to the pooled report. “We have to have Joe Biden as president. If we don’t, I’m not sure we’re ever going to have a chance to come back.”

“This is our moment. Let’s not lose it,” Wolf commented later on.

The Trump Victory campaign issued a statement about the fundraiser, specifically criticizing Biden and Rendell over their economic policies.

“Reckless Ed Rendell taxed Pennsylvanians into oblivion and tanked the Pennsylvania economy,” said Trump Victory Spokesperson Melissa Reed. “No wonder Joe Biden wants his support.”

Although the coronavirus pandemic has changed campaigning over the past several months, this particularly has been an eventful week in the Keystone State.

While Trump’s most recent appearance in the state was when he spoke for 30 minutes at a medical equipment distribution center in the Lehigh Valley in mid-May, Vice President Mike Pence is slated to visit western PA on Friday afternoon to kickoff the “Great American Comeback Tour,” organized by America First Policies, a group that supports Trump’s agenda.

Last week, Biden delivered an address at Philadelphia City Hall on June 2 and will be participating in a roundtable event on Thursday in Philadelphia with community members on how to “make sure the economic reopening is effective and safe and gets America back to work.”

The most recent polling show a tight race between the former VP and Trump in the Keystone State, although Biden currently has a narrow edge.

The Real Clear Politics average shows Biden besting Trump by 3.3 points in Pennsylvania.

  1. No matter who they are, every Dem is better than Trump. But then, so are most GOP.

  2. Rendell is joke, and has been a has-been for a while. He did manage to take advantage of the PA taxpayers with the DNC convention 4 years ago. Rendell is tolerated for his ability to raise money, but not really for much else.

  3. The Trump campaign may want to dial down insults at Rendell who has a lot of respect in political circles. In fact, I find it hard to believe Rendell would have protested as Gov during a pandemic like Wolf did. Rendell is the master at balancing multiple interests like a professional juggler and making it look effortless. Rendell is a master politician. Not to take away from Wolf who easily defeated an experienced incumbent Gov Corbett and, a really bad candidate for Gov, Scott Wagner. Wolf being elected for Gov twice is something few do so that is impressive in itself.

      1. I’m sure Mary knows that Corbett was the first governor to fail to win reelection since the 1968 constitution allowed governors to serve two consecutive terms. Follow your own directive. You don’t need to broadcast how thick your head is.

    1. If there’s one thing that defines Trump, it is seeking the approval of established political circles. I bet you’re right and the campaign quickly issues an apology to Fast Eddie.
