Rep. Neuman Makes Lt. Gov. Bid Official

neuman barIt’s been no secret that State Rep. Brandon Neuman (D-Washington) was mulling a bid for Lieutenant Governor, but today, he officially jumped into the race.

“There is precedence in the state’s history for the lieutenant governor to ascend to the governorship,” explained Neuman. “The lieutenant governor must illustrate that they can work with the Senate and the House to move legislation and to work with the federal government in times of emergencies.

“During my time in the legislature I’ve proven my ability to work across the aisle in a bipartisan leadership role, and I am energetic and hard-working, traits that would serve me well as lieutenant governor,” said Neuman.

He was elected in 2010 to the state House of Representatives to serve the 48th Legislative District.

At the PA Dems’ State Committee Meeting last fall, Neuman passed around chocolate bars with his face on them. It was a sweet indication that he was running for higher office.

Neuman is a late entry to this race and he faces a strong pack of contenders including: former Congressman Mark Critz, State Senator Mike Stack, Harrisburg City Councilman Brad Koplinski, Bradford County Commissioner Mark Smith and Brenda Alton.

But his announcement highlighted the geographic advantage he would bring to the Democratic ticket.

“Coming from the southwest corner of the state, I certainly understand the importance of economic development and jobs growth, and I intend to continue to advocate that Pennsylvania workers are hired for Pennsylvania jobs,” Neuman said.

He and his wife Carrie reside in North Strabane Township.

  1. Karen,
I also know Brandon Neuman. I just want to be clear that I was implying that he, personally, is an unimpressive schmuck. To further clarify, I am not one of Critz’s henchmen, and I in fact find the former rep to have the political sense of a bag of cement.

  2. BJ, you seem so negative about someone I know very well. Candidate Brandon Neuman is not for the “schmuck voters” as you refer to voters. He is a highly-successful negotiator, well-respected attorney and litigator and has served both his community and constituents loyally and transparently.
State Representative Neuman has been able to work with both republicans and democrats with an enthusiasm and vigor few have in their entire careers. He has introduced successful changes concerning our children, seniors and veterans in his district and will not forget he is there to serve us, as he’s already proven to his district. Highly-regarded, intelligent, respectful, ethical, helpful and personable are just a few of the words I have heard in our many area communities to describe Rep. Neuman. So you know, his family members are also good, decent hard-working people who happily welcome constituents to get to know them. He’s been a breath of fresh air in Washington County and we are one tough crowd in SWPA!

  3. Philosophy and issues should be paramount—NOT geography, gender, or race. The person who has worked hardest and is also best on the issues is Brad Koplinski.

  4. I would love a balanced ticket but balance isn’t solely geography but gender and race. Our ticket is balanced not with two men but at least one woman. If you like Neuman then get Allyson or Katie,,,if its Stack or Wolf then it should be Alton….balance ticket means getting all gender and races out..No offense western candidates don’t do well on PA Democratic tickets…..just remember Onorato or Wagner or anybody west…Dems grab leadership from the center and southeast because that’s where the strength of the party exists! I read it earlier McCord/Alton is the real balanced ticket!

  5. Brandon is an amazing person and an outstanding public servant. He will bring a balance to the ticket. Governor from the East – Lt Governor from the West. Two people that understand our great State. This race is simply who can first win and second pull our state out of the gutter Corbett has put us in. Remember to keep your eye on the prize. Beat Corbett before he completely destroys our state. Go Team Neuman!!!

  6. I have no idea how Critz is only by articles. I’m just saying that I will not support anybody running for 2 offices at the same time. And thats my opinion.

  7. John P wants an unemployed homeless candidate?

Neumann’s current job ends/expires if he’s not re-elected. So, he’s applying for two jobs at once, and one is plan B.

John, if you don’t like that, say so. But, you are wrong to complain about him already having ajob, since that job was a single term, and he has to reapply and get picked by the voters.

  8. For whatever reason the most mud thrown on this page always gets thrown at whoever is running against Mark Critz. I smell a rat. Mark is just afraid that Brandon Neuman is the west’s candidate for LG.

  9. John P=Critz/high level staff member or some hellbent smear artist who loves Mark Critz. It isn’t hard to put it all together, you troll. Brandon is a good guy and there are a lot of people happy to support him.

  10. Sooooo Neuman is running for the State Legislature and LG. That does it for me… I will not support someone that already has a job. I guess the job he has now isn’t good enough for him. What a JOKE. Maybe someone should primary him…

  11. Brandon Neuman isn’t a progressive. He is better than Critz but still Pro NRA, Pro Coal and Pro Life. Best of Luck Brandon, you are an easier to swallow Conservative Democrat and not too bad on the eyes.

  12. There goes conservadem Mark Critz’s shot. Neuman will win a number of southwest PA counties and take big bite out of others. He is also a friend of labor and has a decent progressive voting record with a network of State Rep colleagues to help him out across the state.
