Rep. Pitts’ Youth Advisory Council Collects Donations for Avondale Food Bank

Rep. Pitts’ Youth Advisory Council Collects Donations for Avondale Food Bank

Washington–Yesterday, Rep. Joe Pitts (PA-16) and Nick Rongione, a senior at Solanco High School in Quarryvillle, visited the Mision Santa Maria food bank in Avondale to drop off donations. The donations were collected by the Congressman’s Youth Advisory Council, a group of 30 high school juniors and seniors.

The Youth Advisory Council was created by Rep. Pitts to offer high school students the opportunity to debate pressing political issues, interact with elected officials and perform community service. Students also visit Rep. Pitts’ Capitol Hill office in Washington.

Rep. Pitts’ statement follows:

“I’ve been visiting many food banks in the 16th Congressional District this year, and the students in the Youth Advisory Council wanted to get involved. They collected donations, and yesterday Nick came with me to Mision Santa Maria to drop them off.

“It’s wonderful to see how much these young people care for their community and how they are looking for ways to give back. They were glad to be able to support Mision Santa Maria’s outreach to Hispanic families in need of healthy meals.”
