Republican State Committee Preview – Summer 2012

The state Republican Committee meeting is already underway for some, who showed up early to hit the links at Hershey Country Club before a reception dinner tonight. But Friday is the real kick-off, with speakers and caucus meetings taking place over the weekend.

The agenda was already set during the winter meeting, where members endorsed their primary candidates, passed a resolution committing to state party principles and adopted a resolution in favor the Voter ID law. So now their eyes are on the prize: cleaning up the general election.

Republicans are hoping to continue riding the wave of 2010’s election victories and growing discontent with President Obama in certain parts of the state. The GOP has reason to be hopeful, controlling many offices in the state, including the Governor’s, both state chambers and hold one U.S. Senate seat.

Corbett is slated to address the committee Friday at a 6 p.m. “20 in ‘12” reception dinner, where the GOP will reaffirm their promise to deliver all of Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes to the Republican presidential nominee come November.

The Gov. is also likely to tout his accomplishments, which include reining in government spending, no tax increases and passing the Voter ID law. But the party will also be looking ahead to maintaining their historic lead in both state chambers and their determination to capture the presidency.

Saturday morning state party Chairman Rob Gleason will address members, before all four statewide candidates speak: U.S. Senate candidate Tom Smith, Attorney General candidate Dave Freed, Auditor General candidate John Maher and State Treasurer candidate Diana Irey Vaughan.

  1. BJ,

Point taken. But if you don’t support the team, they don’t get to play now do they? Got to start somewhere. The Rothus race, considering longstanding Democrat sway, IS in play because the Rothus team is being supported.

It can be done and if Rothus wins it will be done. SEPA folks are fighting hard to be competitive. Now they have a candidate and…crickets.

Chaka may win. But would it not say something if the party stepped up and drew blood? Romney can win Pa if he appears and supports it in ALL areas. He’s seen Mansfield in action.

No word yet if he and Pa apparatus want to play ball. Miss opportunity if they don’t.

  2. Chaka Fattah could be behind bars and we would still lose by 60+ points. What in the world are you smoking?

  3. Watch Sgt. Robert Mansfield make a push to convince the party faithful that he can beat Chaka Fattah in Pa-02. There is real DC interest in the race considering recent Fattah inner circle legal issues. State GOP slow to see that Philly GOP’er is a potential “Young Gun” who could garner national attention, and resources like few other Congressional candidates this year.

  4. Gleason’s sure got quite an event schedule at this intimate country club gathering. Outstanding! Good to see convicted felon Bob Asher is on the host committee… Don’t forget the golf clubs… And your check books of course!
