Reschenthaler Jumps into Race to Replace Murphy

Guy ReschenthalerState Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny) announced that he will be running to replace retiring Congressman Tim Murphy.

“We need leaders in Washington with the backbone to fight for our shared Western Pennsylvania values, and we need Republicans in Congress who will fight for conservative principles. That is why I am running for Congress,” Reschenthaler said according to the Post-Gazette.

Reschenthaler reportedly had made calls to party insiders before Murphy’s announcement to solidify support for a run.

Reschenthaler is known to party insiders as a prolific fundraiser and campaigner.  Reschenthaler is a Navy veteran, having been a prosecutor in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s office.

He was a magisterial district judge prior to running for the state Senate in a special election in 2015, and then winning a full term in 2016.

State Representative Rick Saccone, who is currently running for U.S. Senate, is reportedly looking into the race.  State Senator Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland), Allegheny County Councilman Sam DeMarco, and County Party chairman D. Raja are rumored to be eyeing the seat as well.

  1. There might be a chance i’m hoping for that Former Governor Tom Corbett runs for this seat in 2018.

      1. there could be a small chance and for he could do both be a congressman is to replace Tim Murphy and be a part time professor at Duquesne Law School, or have Former Governor Tom Corbett and soon to be former congressman Tim Murphy is to switch places.

  2. Isn’t this the guy who violated the judicial cannon to run for the state senate? What a man of integrity!

  3. i’m guessing of i might support him but first and i have to wait until a few more potential candidates is to get in this race.

  4. State Representative Richard Saccone is a natural for this seat.

His expertise in Korean Affairs would make him a great addition to Congress.

To boot, Rep. Saccone’s integrity is beyond reproach.

      1. he’s already running for senate, this would scream, “I lack intergrity and am politically ambitious.”
