Rothman Named New HRCC Chair

State Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) has been selected to be the new chair of the Pennsylvania HRCC. The previous office holder was state Rep. Mark Mustio (R-Allegheny), who retired after his most recent term after serving 18 years in the state House.

“Rep. Rothman has our full faith and confidence to serve as the Chairman of the HRCC,” Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny). “Greg is a problem-solving conservative who understands what it takes to win elections in districts across the Commonwealth. I appreciate Greg’s willingness to take on this role and I am confident that he will help us maintain a strong majority.”

Rothman has represented the 87th District since 2015 and comfortably won his reelection bid in November over Democrat Sean Quinlan.

The Republicans had a net loss of 11 seats in the state House during the most recent election, but maintain their majority during this session.

Rothman is thankful for the chance to lead the HRCC and is ready to take on the roll.

“This is an incredible opportunity and I am ready to help elect Republicans to the State House in Districts across the Commonwealth,” he said. “I want to thank Speaker Turzai for the trust he has placed in me to serve in this key position.”

Rothman will be joined by state Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford), who will serve as the Vice Chair of the HRCC during this upcoming election cycle.

“I also look forward to working alongside Rep. Topper and the staff at the HRCC to achieve our goals and ensure we have strong Republican leadership in the State House,” Rothman said.

  1. “Comfortably won” my left foot. Each election his margin of victory shrinks, and he loses more and more confidence of the voters in his district. He didn’t win a single precinct in Camp Hill. He changed his campaign messaging three times by the end of the election he was so scared of losing. If he runs again in 2020 (and who really knows at this point) he’s not guaranteed a win.

    1. Why would Turzai appoint Rothman to this position? He was charged with a felony and he hasn’t learned from it. The Cumberland GOP is a mess and he pays himself rent for office space. More money in Greg’s pocket, less money to support the party. It’s pitiful when more money is spent on rent payments to the Chairman then supporting the party. I guess HRCC will be moving to a Rothman owned building soon.

      1. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rep Rothman has the HRCC move into a building he owns so he can charge them rent. He has a habit of mixing his real estate business with his work as a legislator and then getting huffy when people call him out on it. Obviously, I don’t know that that’s what he’s doing, though it was very interesting that every single building he owns, manages, and represents had his signs out front during the last election. I feel like that’s a conflict of interest.

  2. Dems need to be way way way more proactive with the emerging demographic in the Pa legislature that can help them. More and more women are seeking office who are eager to engage in the political process. While there have been gains it is frustrating to see the missed opportunities in Bucks and Montgomery Counties as well as Lehigh County. There needs to be an active recruitment process seeking to find candidates driven to participate in Pa politics and help the Dems win.
