Two-term Dauphin County state Sen. John DiSanto (R-Dauphin) has announced that he will not seek reelection to his 15th state senatorial district seat.
DiSanto serves as the chair of the Senate Banking and Insurance committee and as vice-chair of Urban Affairs and Housing.
“As much as I would enjoy defeating a third Democratic opponent, I will honor my two-term pledge,” said DiSanto. “I appreciate the confidence the voters of the 15th District placed in me to represent their interest in the state legislature over the last seven years.”
“I take great pride in having the smallest staff in the Pennsylvania Senate and appreciate all the hard work we have done addressing constituent concerns,” he continued. “I will continue for the next year to fight the expansion of state government and work to stop money-wasting, government-growing ideas from becoming law.”
DiSanto won the seat in 2016, defeating then-incumbent Rob Teplitz, 52-48. He earned reelection by a 4,500-vote margin over Democrat George Scott in 2020.
State Rep. Patty Kim (D-103) has already announced her intention to run for the 15th District seat in the Senate, stating that she will not seek reelection for the state House’s 103rd District. Kim has a number of powerful Dems in her corner, including Gov. Josh Shapiro who endorsed her on Thursday.
Should Democrats be able to flip the seat, that would leave Republicans with a slim two-seat margin in the chamber (27-23).

The district has been re-drawn and he would definitely lose. He knows that. The Perry county portion that saved him in ’16 and ’20 has been taken out of this seat so it is now an un-gerrymandered district with fairly drawn boundaries. Before, the very Republican Perry county was drawn into this district to dilute the Democratic votes from Harrisburg. It is now a Dauphin county only district. Republicans only win by cheating and that has been taken away.
