Rep. Jim Gerlach isn’t backing down from Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan or its changes to Medicare. In an op-ed column to the Pottstown Mercury titled “Fix Medicare now to avoid breakdown,” the Congressman reiterated the GOP’s message that reform is necessary to protect Medicare from bankruptcy.

Three members of Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation — Congressmen Mark Critz, Jason Altmire and Glenn Thompson — spent late May and early June working to ensure that the federal government continues to expand the services it provides to the returning service members’ seeking to transition back to civilian life.

The U.S. Supreme Court handed down a favorable ruling on the issue that brought the Congressman to national fame when he was still the mayor of Hazleton. The Court issued a ruling in favor of Hazleton’s Illegal Immigration Relief Act Ordinance and ordered the Third Circuit Court of Appeals’ to reconsider the law, which it struck down in 2007.
