American Crossroads, the Super PAC founded by Karl Rove, recently launched a radio advertisement entitled “Cecil Roberts” that will air in western Pennsylvania and other states. It blasts President Barack Obama’s “War on Coal.”

That didn’t take long. In the wake of Rick Santorum’s departure from the presidential contest, Sen. Pat Toomey threw his support behind Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee.

Citing the difficult time his family has had in recent days dealing with the health problems of daughter Bella, and finally yielding to polls and delegate math, Santorum pulled out of the race.

Sen. Jane Earll (R-Erie) today threw her support behind Mitt Romney, citing his business experience, and threw a subtle jab at Rick Santorum.

Rick Santorum’s baggage is a little heavier in Pa. than in other states, something Mitt Romney sought to highlight in a negative ad. But in a mix of tact and tactics, his campaign decided to pull the spot out of respect for the Santorum family’s ongoing concern over daughter Bella’s health.
