SEN. KITCHEN: ‘GO GREEN’ AT UPCOMING HEALTH FAIR
Free Mammogram Appointments Still Available
PHILADELPHIA, SEPT. 17, 2010 — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is teaming up with state Sen. Shirley Kitchen and Deliverance Evangelistic Church at their free “Go Green” Health Fair on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church’s parking lot at 21st Street and Lehigh Avenue.
Participants can take part in a number of healthy activities, including free blood pressure, glucose and HbA1c screenings, while learning simple tips to be more environmentally friendly. The Red Cross will have a blood drive for individuals who want to give blood.
“Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is about taking care of our bodies and minds, but it’s also about taking care of the world around us,” Kitchen said. “I invite everyone to come out and receive some valuable free information on keeping yourselves healthy and our environment healthy, all while enjoying the fresh air and the good company of friends and neighbors.”
The EPA will hold demonstrations on asthma, children’s health, and how to build an indoor garden box to grow vegetable and herbs without pesticides during the frost seasons. The EPA will also be handing out literature on lead poison, healthy homes information (bed bugs) and much more.
There will also be gospel choirs, free food, cooking demonstrations, free massages, children’s activities, including the Philadelphia Zoo, and more. Additionally, a truck will be available for those who want to shred important documents, keeping in with the “Go Green” theme.
Free mammogram appointments, co-sponsored by Fox Chase Cancer Center, will also be available at the health fair for women ages 40 and older. No insurance is necessary but a doctor’s note is required. Call Debra Resnick at Fox Chase at 215-214-1682 to make an appointment.
