State Senate Republicans have voted to issue subpoenas for voter records and personal information of every registered voter in the state. Here is the Playbook. 

‘Pa. Republicans vote to subpoena voter records and personal information in 2020 election probe’: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that “Pennsylvania Republicans voted Wednesday to subpoena Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration for detailed records of every registered voter in the state, including personal information like the last four digits of their Social Security numbers.”

‘Pa. GOP lawmakers to subpoena personal information on every voter in controversial 2020 election review’: Spotlight PA reports that “Republican lawmakers in the Capitol are pushing to collect personal information on every registered Pennsylvania voter, as well as a trove of communications between state and county election officials, as part of a controversial inquiry into the 2020 presidential election.”

‘To block school mask order, House GOP appeals to arcane committee’: The Pennsylvania Capital-Star reports that “Majority House Republicans have asked an obscure state regulatory oversight committee to review the Wolf administration’s school mask mandate.”

‘Gov. Wolf’s coronavirus business waiver program was flawed, secretive, Pa. auditor says’: Spotlight PA reports that “the Wolf administration’s controversial waiver program allowing businesses to remain open during the early months of the pandemic was flawed, administered unevenly, and assembled “on the fly,” hurting businesses and putting public health at risk, a state audit has found.”

‘In Reading, Wolf urges eligible Pennsylvanians to get vaccine to protect school-age children’: The Pennsylvania Capital-Star reports that “speaking from a mobile vaccine clinic at Reading Area Community College in Berks County on Tuesday morning, Gov. Tom Wolf called on Pennsylvanians to get vaccinated and to help end the COVID-19 pandemic.”

‘College Township council member makes run for Kerry Benninghoff’s PA House seat official’: The Centre Daily Times reports that “three months after launching an exploratory committee for PA House District 171, College Township council member Paul Takac has officially announced his candidacy for the seat currently held by House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte.”

‘EXCLUSIVE: Attendant accuses state Sen. Anthony Williams of making false statements about golf club fistfight’: KYW Newsradio reports that “a worker at a Montgomery County golf course has filed a defamation suit against state Sen. Anthony Williams, stemming from a fight at a golf club last fall.”

‘Eric Papenfuse makes it official; he will run for a third term as Harrisburg’s mayor by write-in’: PennLive reports that “Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse, the one-time outsider who helped spark a movement that turned Harrisburg’s insider-dominated city government on its head in the first decade of this century, has decided that he wants to get a second opinion from voters this fall on the question of whether the Papenfuse era at City Hall should now be over.”

‘Republican Bill McSwain Campaigns For Governor In Pittsburgh With Strong Law And Order Message’: KDKA reports that “former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain from Philadelphia announced his campaign for governor on Monday, but the Republican spent his first day on the campaign trail in Pittsburgh.”

‘Allegheny County Council Votes Against Mask Requirement Legislation’: KDKA reports that “Allegheny County Council has voted against a county-wide mask mandate for indoor and large outdoor public gatherings.”

‘Pittsburgh City Council approves federal COVID-19 relief for URA, basic income programs, with stricter reporting requirements’: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that “nearly $95 million of Pittsburgh’s federal COVID-19 relief dollars are headed to three of the city’s authorities and to a basic income pilot project that will send cash payments to 200 city residents.”

‘Philly cops will get raises in their new contract. It’s a mixed bag for Kenney’s police reform hopes.’: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that “a new contract for Philadelphia’s police union gives cops significant raises and includes incremental changes to the process for disciplining officers — changes that advocates for stronger police accountability quickly condemned as inadequate.”

‘Election 2021: Who is on the ballot in York County?’: The York Daily Record details the contested races in York County in 2021. 

‘York County elections director loses job after botched primary’: The York Dispatch reports that “the troubled May 2021 primary apparently has cost the York County elections director his job. Director Steve Ulrich is set to be demoted to deputy director, and the county will begin the search for a new director, according to York County Democratic Party head Chad Baker.”

‘After primary ballot shortage, York County officials make recommendations for improvements’: The York Daily Record reports that “with 49 days remaining until the Nov. 2 election, York County officials have recommended improvements to avoid shortcomings experienced in the primary, such as running out of ballots at the polls.”

‘Who put up the Joe Biden Taliban billboard over I-83? It’s a familiar face.’: The York Dispatch reports that “an eye-catching billboard featuring a photoshopped image of President Joe Biden dressed as a member of the Taliban recently popped up on Interstate 83 in York County. And a familiar face has taken credit: onetime GOP gubernatorial hopeful Scott Wagner.”

‘Biden’s vaccine mandate spurs mixed emotions in Chester County’: The Daily Local News reports on how Chester County residents are responding to President Joe Biden’s “mandated that all businesses with more than 100 employees mandate their employees receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which first became available to the public in early January, or be tested weekly for the virus, or face $14,000 fines per employee.”

‘PA’s Fitzpatrick Tells Sec State Afghan Fiasco Has Allies ‘Scared to Death’’: The Delaware Valley Journal reports that “at a congressional hearing Monday, Pennsylvania Representatives Scott Perry (R-Dauphin), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks), and Chrissy Houlahan (D-Chester) grilled U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken over the Biden administration’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.”

‘Rep. Cartwright discusses COVID-19 relief funds in visit to Pocono Mountain West High School’: WFMZ reports that “Congressman Matt Cartwright paid his first-ever visit to the Pocono Mountain School District Tuesday. He held a roundtable discussion at Pocono Mountain West High School to talk about how federal dollars are being put to use, and to find out what the community still needs amid the pandemic.”

‘Proposed 2% fee on Allegheny County hotel room rentals to promote tourism draws support, scrutiny’: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that “Pittsburgh’s top tourism group is proposing to tack on a 2% fee to every hotel room rented in Allegheny County to increase the amount of money available to market and promote the region.”

‘State College’s Council opposes GOP push to audit 2020 election, calls Corman’s move a ‘disservice’’: The Centre Daily Times reports that “the State College Borough Council formally opposed the state GOP’s recent announcement to audit the 2020 election, chastising Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, for his role in what it characterized as a partisan and baseless move.”

‘Carlisle moves ahead on making marijuana ordinance permanent’: The Carlisle Sentinel reports that “the Carlisle Borough Council last week instructed its staff to begin work on an ordinance that will take steps to continue its policy of giving police the option to charge possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia as a summary offense.”

‘Texas sets stage for abortion battles; Trump weighs in on Senate race’: The Williamsport Sun-Gazette reports that “with lawmakers preparing for an early return and the U.S. Supreme Court allowing a restrictive new Texas abortion law to take effect, Pennsylvania’s abortion rights activists are steeling themselves for new fights.”

‘Blair financial picture better than original budget’: The Altoona Mirror reports that “Blair County is still expected to end the year in a financial hole but not as deep as first thought.”

‘WHYY union votes to approve its first contract’: WHYY reports that “unionized reporters and content creators at WHYY voted overwhelmingly in favor of their first contract with the public radio and TV broadcaster on Monday.”

‘Indoor mask mandate set to soon start within State College Borough. Here’s what to know’: The Centre Daily Times reports that “after a back-and-forth discussion among the public, the State College Borough Council unanimously approved an ordinance Monday night that requires masking indoors – regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status – in any business or building open the public.” 

‘‘We’ve got you.’ State College school board approves equity policies for transgender students’: The Centre Daily Times reports that the State College Area School District Board of Directors “approved two policies that ensure the equity and nondiscrimination of gender expansive and transgender students and individuals.”

‘PIAA to mandate COVID vaccination for officials working state playoffs’: The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that “the PIAA will require its game officials in all sports to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work any state postseason contests this fall.”

McSwain to Campaign in Johnstown, Harrisburg, and Pittston: Bill McSwain, former U.S. Attorney for Pennsylvania’s Eastern District during the Trump administration who is seeking the GOP nomination for Governor, will be campaigning in Johnstown, Harrisburg, and Pittston on Wednesday, according to a press release from his campaign. McSwain will be joined by Robert Gleason Jr., former chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party, and Cambria County Republican Party Chairwoman Jackie Kulback, for the press conference in Johnstown. 

PA18: Yaney Endorses Dickinson: Edgewood Councilmember Tara Yaney has endorsed Jerry Dickinson for Congress, according to a press release. Dickinson, a law professor at the University of Pittsburgh, is challenging Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Allegheny) in the 2022 Democratic primary. Doyle defeated Dickinson in the Democratic primary in 2020.

Meuser Hires New Scheduler: POLITICO reports that Alexandra Byrne “is now scheduler” for Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne). She “most recently was correspondence manager” for Sen. Pat Toomey.

Meuser Deputy Chief of Staff Joins Apex Government Consulting: POLITICO reports that Eli Woerpel, who previously was deputy chief of staff for Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne), is “joining Apex Government Consulting as a founding partner with Jim Joice.” 

2020 Biden PA Campaign Press Secretary Joins American Bridge 21st Century: POLITICO reports that “Tiffiany Vaughn Jones is joining American Bridge 21st Century as national press secretary. She previously was press secretary for the Biden campaign’s Pennsylvania operation and is a Tom Steyer and Hillary Clinton alum.”

So the Republican State Senate and Senator Corman want to go “All Big Brother” and get my Social Security Number, personal ID and other private information all because I wanted to participate in the democratic process? And what if I do not vote the way the State Senate Republican chieftains don’t approve of? Will myself and other similar voters be questioned and perhaps sent to “reeducation camps?” We are tumbling down some spooky waters in terms of remaining true to the democratic process (SMALL “D”). Scary stuff the Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin never thought about.
