Sestak Boosts SEPA Challengers

When he wasn’t appearing on cable news or answering questions about whether he’ll run for Governor in 2014, former Rep. and 2010 Senate hopeful Joe Sestak has been busy recently helping local candidates.

He has two events coming up – one for George Badey, challenging Rep. Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) in Sestak’s old seat, and another for Aryanna Strader, challenging Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Chester).

The Badey event is June 14 at a private home in Wayne, the Strader event is June 11 at a restaurant in Philadelphia. Each costs $250 to get in the door, $1,000 for friends, and $2,500 for hosts, according to event fliers obtained by PoliticsPA.

Badey is an attorney, Strader is a veteran and businesswoman.

Sestak had the reputation of an outsider prior to his 2010 Senate bid; no matter what he decides to do next these events continue a recent trend of helping local Democrats.

The former admiral went 2 for 5 in the primary. He endorsed Matt Cartwright over Rep. Tim Holden (D-Schuylkill), and backed Karen Ramsburg in her write-in bid to make the ballot against Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Blair).

He also supported Rep. Jason Altmire who lost to Rep. Mark Critz in PA-12, Ken Lee who lost to Harry Perkinson in PA-4, and Nate Kleinman, the Occupy challenger who lost his write-in bid against Rep. Allyson Schwartz in PA-13.

Chris Matthews asks Sestak about challenging Corbett at the 6:37 mark in this video.

Update: a Sestak source tells PoliticsPA that the Congressman is also doing fundraisers for  6 other Democrats in the next two weeks: Manan Trivedi, challenging Rep. Jim Gerlach; Larry Maggi, challenging Rep. Tim Murphy; Phill Scollo, challenging Rep. Tom Marino; Larry DeMarco, challenging state Rep. Joe Hackett; Eric Schott, challenging state Rep. John Lawrence; and John Douglas of Virginia, challenging Rep. Robert Hurt.

  1. Kathleen-

You listed four people, but only two liberals.

BTW, Sestak already lives in Virginia.

  2. Sestak, Fattah, and Rendell should gather up Casey and all go off and lead the rest of their liberal lives in San Francisco.

  3. Ed –
Sorry it took so long for me to respond …

Actually, Sestak is 2 for 6 in primaries… He endorsed a candidate in Ohio primary, too!

Sestak generated no state legislative gains in his district, except for Lentz who got in despite Sestak courting Republican voters. No gains in 2008, and down ticket losses in 2010.

  4. Sestak will never get my vote after the stunts he pulled in 2010. This guy did nothing for the party and because of him Republicans got elected. Then he goes out and endorses against the only woman in PA has in Congress. Whats an absolute disgrace! All Joe Sestak did in 2012 was contribute to the war on women. Hopefully other Democrats will jump into the governor’s race because any of them will get my vote over that self-serving idiot Joe Sestak.
