Shapiro Projected as Winner In Governor’s Race

Josh Shapiro

Democratic candidate Josh Shapiro is projected as the winner in the Pennsylvania governor’s race.

The current Attorney General of the Commonwealth received the nod from the Associated Press at 12:16 a.m.

He holds an approximately 700,000 vote lead over Republican nominee Doug Mastriano out of 5.16 million votes.

Shapiro told supporters at his election night rally that “You met this moment. We showed in this campaign that no matter what you look like, where you come from, who you love or who you pray to, you are valued here in Pennsylvania and we hear you. Tonight, you, the good people of Pennsylvania, you won. Opportunity won. A woman’s right to choose won.”

“The right to organize here in Pennsylvania, that won,” he continued. “Your right to vote won. And in the face of all the lies and conspiracies and baseless claims, you also ensured tonight that truth won right here in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. And you know what else won tonight? I’ll tell you what else won tonight. Real freedom won tonight.”

Mastriano, the state senator from Franklin County has not conceded the race, telling supporters that “In this constitutional republic that we have, the people get the last word. So we’re going to wait patiently to see what the people Pennsylvania said, and what the people of Pennsylvania say, we will, of course, respect that.”
