Josh Shapiro will be the Democratic candidate for Attorney General, after seeing off Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala and Northampton County DA John Morganelli.
Zappala conceded the race to the Montco Commissioner, having been down by 10 points, 47%-37%, with 99% of precincts reporting. Shapiro took 710,884 votes to Zappala’s 554,086.
Morganelli picked up 16% with 242,292 votes.
Shapiro is looking to be just the second Democrat to hold the highest legal office, taking the torch from troubled incumbent Dem. AG Kathleen Kane.
Philly labor union leader John Dougherty’s letter to the PA AFL-CIO on Monday did little to sway voters to Zappala’s campaign, with Shapiro picking up 56% of the vote in the City of Brotherly Love.
Shapiro will face John Rafferty in November, after the State Senator saw off a primary challenge from Joe Peters, a former Kane spokesman.

Looks like Shapiro will ROLL over that lipless loser in November. Why couldn’t we have nominated someone who actually has lips?!
Well looks like the Rs will be taking this seat in November. Thats ok Shapiro can lose and get ready for his run at Gov.
No, Aaron. Not yet. And Seth Williams hasn’t fired Fine yet, either, despite some new developments:
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/85d68be784fe44538233940d1cc93979/some-charges-against-penn-state-ex-administrators-thrown
The Superior Court of PA found that Fina’s conduct in the Penn State case was “highly improper.” They found that he lied to a Judge.
And, today we found out that he never told Judge Carpenter in MontCo that Kane had found his vile, disgusting e-mails. He pretended his “report” of the leaks was all about “duty.” But it was really all about protecting himself and keeping his racist e-mails a secret.
That guy should get fitted for his orange jump-suit!!
I’m here. Has he resigned yet?
“kanesdriver”
Jessica – Don’t forget the guy that DD exposed here. Posted as “lanes driver.” Has he been arrested yet?
Oh- and since AARON is M.I.A. – has Frank Fina resigned yet?
Adios, Beemer, Deucker, Renee Martin, Pat Reese, and about 3 dozens others.
Bruce Beemer and the rest of the inbred Clown Car occupants better have their resumes ready!!
So – When is Zappala going to pledge his support to his Party’s victor? And when is he going to address those “Black Lives Matter”/Zappala propaganda that showed up at polling places? Because, I am fairly certain BLM did not endorse/support Zappala.
Marty Marks you lost again….. Sad face….
John “Doc” Dougherty, Bob Brady, John Cordisco, I am thinking about running for office. PLEASE don’t write ANY letters for me.. All three of you are a looser to have on my side. Keep your money or should I say the OPM Other People Money you spend so freely.
Adam – whatever.
The point is that Shapiro won big and will now wipe up the floor with Rafferty.
After listening to the respective victory speeches of Rafferty & Shapiro, Josh is much more polished. He will make mincemeat of Rafferty in the general election.
What am I missing? Why would John Dougherty fear Shapiro? It will take him a few years to figure out how to indict someone and by than he will be gearing up to run for Governor. THe real loser in this process was DePasquale for endorsing Shapiro. What was he thinking? He just killed any chance of ever running for governor. He pissed off the west and the east and in the process helped a blatantly politically ambitious Dem of the same age. Brilliantly stupid on Eugene’s part. Get your resume updated because you will need it on four years.
I spotted Johnny Doc on the Greyhound bus to Tijuana, Mexico this morning.
The plan: Castor becomes first assistant, Josh runs for Gov as Wolf bows out of second term, then Brucie goes for AG. But the R’s may have something to say about all that. You gotta love PA politics!
The O knows! Just listen to the O!!!
Double digit win for Hillary.
Double digit win for McGinty.
Double digit win for Shapiro.
What a waste. The blind ambition, and arrogance of this man and his backer Ed Rendell knows no bounds. Here’s to him getting his behind kicked in November.
The information about Shapiro taking another $100,000 from charter school came out too late and many were unaware of it. The people I informed of it dropped their plans to vote for Shapiro. If it had come out a week sooner, Zappala could have run ads about it.
Josh are you please going to arrest Johnny Doc??? corruption from top to bottom. DRP, union and non union contractors, city hall, Seth Williams, L&I and etc… Doc lost huge tonight in Philly. Zappala, Kevin Boyle, Nelms all LOSERS.
I want to say congrats to you Josh Shapiro is to win the primary but I did supported John Rafferty is to be the next Attorney General though and if you win in November and I’m hoping for Former Congresswoman Allyson Schawartz is to be the next Montogomery County Commissioner in 2017, and for the general election race between you and Rafferty is going to be a tough one though.
But … but … Johnny Doc!!!
John Dougherty wrote a letter for Zappala! How could it be that Zappala got SMOKED??
lmao
Kane got at least 1 vote too.
Great job Team Shapiro. It’s been great working for our next Attorney General.
Great campaign by Shapiro. He was the better candidate and is the better man.
He will make a fine Attorney General.
January 2017: Congratulations to Pennsylvania’s new Attorney General, John Rafferty.
