Statewide Judicial Races Open Thread

PoliticsPA has called the race for Bucks County attorney Anne Covey. The collar county firewall – where local committees work hard to enforce a state party endorsement – has held up. His performance in Allegheny County leave little doubt – Covey will be the nominee.

Low turnout in Bucks County threatens both Dem endorsed candidate Kathryn Boockvar and GOP endorsee Anne Covey.

One operative on the ground predicted less than 18 percent turnout by the time polls close tonight. “At 3:00, many of our precincts were less than half of that.” The operative added that GOP turnout was slightly higher than Democrats’.

That’s not good news for either Boockvar or Covey, who both hail from Bucks, but it’s probably worse for Boockvar. Her primary is an east v. west showdown with Barbara Ernsberger, and she needs the eastern part of the state to show up.

That said, turnout is low across the state, and it may equal out.

PoliticsPA will continue to update you on turnout projections everywhere in PA.

The Boockvar camp is feeling confident, especially with their boots on the ground from labor groups. They’re hearing low turnout, just like everyone else.

“As the state endorsed Democrat, we’ve been working with elected officials, candidates and party structure to make sure that super Ds are coming out and voting for Kathy as well as local candidates to make sure Kathy is part of their field campaign.  We have very high coverage at the polls pretty much across the state,” says spokesman Dan Fee.
