Kevin Strouse continued in the footsteps of former Congressman Patrick Murphy Monday when he earned the backing of VoteVets, a progressive DC-based PAC.

“Kevin has military service and patriotism in his blood; he comes from a long line of men who served this nation,” said Jon Soltz, the group’s chairman.

Strouse is a Democratic candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th district. He hopes to face Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks).

VoteVets PAC says its mission is to “elect Veterans, especially veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to public office; hold public officials accountable for their words and actions that impact America’s 21st century service-members and veterans; and fully support our men and women in uniform.”

The PAC overwhelmingly supports Democrats and opposes Republicans.

“Kevin knows what it takes to keep America safe, but more importantly, has the proven commitment to keep the people of his Pennsylvania district well-represented in Congress. People who want a tireless fighter and dogged advocate in Congress who truly represents their needs can’t do any better than Kevin,” Soltz continued.

One of Strouse’s strongest backers is former Congressman and fellow Iraq War veteran Patrick Murphy, who maintains very close ties to VoteVets. The organization’s website calls Murphy a “VoteVets adviser”.

The PAC gave Murphy more than $25,000 in direct contributions over the course of his three campaigns. It had a budget of more than $3 million in the 2012 cycle.

Strouse served in both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and was even part of the famous rescue operation of Jessica Lynch. After leaving the service, Strouse spent six years working for the CIA Counterrorism Center.

Strouse announced his candidacy for the seat in PA-8 last April. He immediately received de facto backing from the DCCC. He was named one of its “Jumpstart” candidates and DCCC Chair Steve Israel (D-NY) will headline a fundraiser Tuesday for Strouse.

The other declared candidate in the Democratic primary is businesswoman Shaughnessy Naughton.

  1. I don’t know Bob, why wouldn’t he? Is the military big or small? Is it part of the government or not? Should the government help our veterans or or abandon them in order to be smaller? Isn’t our nation also supported on the backs of our veterans?

  2. The average voter doesn’t give a rat’s rear-end that he grew up in a different part of the suburbs that is no more than 20 miles outside the current district line. And he just moved back to the area because he has been off serving his country. The only ones who care about this enough to troll around posting nasty comments on web sites — and who have a history of being dismissive of military service — are the hacks behind Naughton’s already negative campaign.

  3. Why would someone vote for a candidate that just moved to the district. As a person who he is trying to represent, it annoys me. I don’t need DC party people to organize and pick a candidate to move here and attempt to run for office.

I would rather vote for any Dem that is from the 8th than this guy.

  4. Tell me why would a veteran want to go to Washington to support larger and larger government supported on the backs of the next generation?
