Suffolk Poll: Shapiro Holds Slight Lead

Josh Shapiro, Doug Mastriano

A Suffolk University/USA TODAY poll of likely midterm voters shows Democratic candidate Josh Shapiro with a slight four-point advantage over Republican challenger Doug Mastriano in the race for Pennsylvania governor.

Shapiro, the current attorney general, received 44 percent support to the question, “If the general election for governor were held today and the candidates were Democrat Josh Shapiro, Republican Doug Mastriano, Green Party Christina “PK” DiGuilio, Libertarian Matt Hackenburg, or Keystone Party Joe Soloski, for whom would you vote or toward whom would you LEAN at this time?”

Mastriano, the state senator from Franklin County, was second at 40.2 percent, while the others polled under 1.5 percent.

Forty-one percent responded that they were extremely interested in the race, while another 31 percent added they were very interested. Only one percent indicated they were undecided.

The economy (26.2 percent) was cited as the most important issue when considering the vote for governor, while 16.4 percent said gun control was their most important issue.

Less than 2 in 5 of those polled feel that current governor Tom Wolf is doing a excellent or good job in the position, while nearly 38 percent rate his performance as poor.

Over half of the respondents (54.2 percent) said that Pennsylvania is on the wrong track, while a little more than 1 in 4 said that the Keystone State is heading in the right direction.

This survey of 500 likely Pennsylvania general election voters was conducted between June 10 and June 13, 2022, and is based on live telephone interviews of adults who indicated they were likely to vote in the November 2022 general election for governor and U.S. Senate. The margin of sampling error for results based on the total sample is +/-4.4 percentage points.

  1. Shapiro’s ads need to be completely different in the Philly media markets vs the rest of the state. He should be promoting his support for fracking and his criminal prosecution cases (more than just the priests) in the non-Philly areas while promoting gun control and abortion rights in the Philly media market

  2. PA voters, regardless of how you are registered, if you want NORMAL come January of 2023 – Josh Shapiro is the ONLY choice. He’s been a common sense decision maker as a state rep, county commissioner and as attorney general. The state will be run in a normal fashion. In 2024, the candidate that wins the vote will have their slate of electors, even if, GOD FORBID, it is Trump.

If Ding Dong Doug gets in, chaos will be the daily feature. He will attempt to run the state as a strong man. Even worse, he will subject us all to his far right evangelical vision.

Ding Dong Doug is NOT Tom Ridge or Tom Corbett. He is a radical idiot.

    1. Hey Huckaschmuck…your “the sky’s falling” rants over Doug are awesome. What’s going to be more more awesome is when he wins in Nov.
      I’ll send you Kleenex

  3. They oversampled dems and college educated women, so no surprise Zealot Shapiro is winning. Mas will take home the bacon in November though.

  4. What my friends posting here forget is when all other state row officers went down the drain–THE YEAR PRESIDENT BIDEN WON!—Attorney General Josh Shapiro prevailed in a laugher. He’s a good politician. Pa is a centrist state and not somewhere that a “New Green Dealer” is going to prevail. Playbook is simple which is hammer home all summer that, “voters..you got yourself a zealot here” and overwhelm Msatriano with his own quotes. Then immediately distance yourself from the woke by supporting Martin company’s worker even if their owner is an idiot.

    1. Shapiro is a hard leftist. He’s a zealot on the left, and must be defeated.

He will go down hard, because people will care about Gas6.

  5. Dung Mastriano is the wannabe Mussolini of PA. Look for a lamp post near you. Dung is the shit we have been warned about by patriot grandfathers.

  6. There is an absolute danger here of the Dems blowing this election. The fact that the “fundamentals” (inflation, gas prices, etc.) favor the GOP has been well-documented. But the GOP gave the Dems an absolute gift here with Mastriano. But from where I sit, the Dems are using the exact same playbook as they would be using against White or McSwain, with their opening salvo being abortion. This might move the needle with the base given the Supreme Court leak, but I question if it works in swing areas and “purple” suburbs given the economic environment. The fact that Mastriano is a treasonous insurrectionist who advocated disenfranchising millions of Pennsylvania voters, would seem to be the more critical message I’d think.

    1. Ya Dems aren’t very smart. Most people are already sided on abortion, so that is not anything to move the needle. Neither is calling Matriano a “treasonous insurrectionist who advocated disenfranchising millions of Pennsylvania voters”, since A) None of that is in any way true, B) pushes away people who care about Inflation and Gas6.

  7. The fact that the lunatic Mastriano is this close is a troubling sign for this country.

  8. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Funny propaganda right there!
