State Government Committee sends two bills to floor for discussion
The Pennsylvania State House of Representatives voted on Thursday morning to move the Keystone State’s 2024 presidential primary.
By a party-line vote of 102-100, the chamber passed HB 1634, sponsored by Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia), that moves the primary from the third Tuesday in May to the first Tuesday in April. In 2024, that date would be April 2.
The bill now goes to the GOP-controlled state Senate for concurrence.
A move to April 2 would place Pennsylvania in front of Louisiana and Wisconsin in the presidential primary stakes. Senate Bill 224, sponsored by Sen. David Argall (R-), proposes a move to the third Tuesday in March – or March 19 – for 2024. That date would place the Commonwealth on the same calendar as Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, and Ohio.
More to come.
