Keystone State third among all states in presidential campaign spending
According to AdImpact, Pennsylvania has seen $301 million in 2022 general election spending as of Tuesday.
Just days after Gov. Josh Shapiro unveiled a new tourism slogan for the Keystone State, we have another to offer the administration to consider.
“America Starts Its Political Advertising Here.”
Or, “You’ve Got Ad Time in Pennsylvania.”
One more … “Pennsylvania Political Ads Last a Lifetime.”
In a NPR analysis of data from AdImpact, $72.1 million has been spent on ads as we begin to close out the month of May. That figure includes TV, radio, satellite and digital.
It will come as no surprise that almost 70 percent of that total has been spent in seven key states, including Pennsylvania.
It may come as a surprise that $21.2 million, or approximately $3 out of every $10, has been allocated to our state.
To quote Domenico Montanaro of NPR, “Clearly, the campaigns see the Keystone state as, well, a keystone to this election.”
The Biden-Harris campaign has already spent $8.3M in Commonwealth media markets, while an additional $2.5M has come from outside groups. The Trump campaign has been non-existent in the state, while outside groups have spent $10.5M, mostly coming from MAGA Inc. That works out to four out of every MAGA $5 to Pennsylvania.
Biden’s campaign is the biggest spender of the election so far at $34.2 million and counting. MAGA Inc.is second, putting up almost $12 million. Trump’s campaign has hardly spent on ads, just $70,521, as of Friday afternoon.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent and is getting double-digits in most national polls, has spent a little over $800,000 total on ads.
The most-run ad of the campaign so far is this pro-Biden one about protecting the Affordable Care Act. It’s run 7,700 times in 17 days in all seven states.
MAGA’s Inc.’s most-run ad is focused on immigration, but it has started to run this one most in the past week, which is focused on the economy (and makes unfounded claims about Biden’s mental faculties).
