Three members of the Pennsylvania congressional delegation will sit on the task force to investigate the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-16), who represents Butler, the district in which the shooting occurred, introduced the resolution and will serve as the chair.
Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-04) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-06) are the other Keystone State legislators on the committee.
The 13-member panel is composed of seven Republicans and six Democrats chosen by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
Other members of the committee include:
Crow will be the panel’s ranking member.
“We have the utmost confidence in this bipartisan group of steady, highly qualified and capable Members of Congress to move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability and help make certain such failures never happen again,” Johnson and Jeffries said in a joint statement.
“In the aftermath of the assassination attempt, I heard calls from both sides of the aisle to lower the political temperature, to tamp down the rhetoric. I echo these calls,” wrote Kelly in an op-ed in Newsweek. “My hope is that, by establishing the task force, we will shine a light on the facts that so many Americans have been desperately seeking. I know that’s the case in Butler, Pennsylvania. This is why I believe the task force is critical: we must utilize the collective power of Congress as a tool to dig deeper and find the facts.”
“It’s a distinct and solemn honor to be appointed by Speaker Mike Johnson and Leader Hakeem Jeffries to serve on the bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump,” said Houlahan in a press release.
“Legislation needed to establish this task force passed the House unanimously, underscoring the mandate from Pennsylvanians and all Americans to conduct this investigation free from political influences and divisive rhetoric. I am committed to upholding our values of truth, civility, decency, and patriotism through my work on this task force.”
The investigation is among several inquiries by lawmakers, law enforcement and federal agencies into the shooting. In the House, the task force will now “assume control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations regarding the Trump assassination attempt” until the end of the current Congress in January, the statement said.
Johnson and Jeffries previously said the panel will have full subpoena power to investigate the attempt on Trump’s life at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13.
