Retired Army sergeant becomes fourth Democratic trying to unseat Scott Perry
In an ever-growing field of Democratic candidates for the U.S. Congress, add another name for the 10th Congressional District.
Robert “Bob” Forbes, a retired Army Sergeant First Class from Camp Hill, has joined the field, increasing the number of candidates lining up in hopes of challenging Rep. Scott Perry (R-York).
Forbes, 64, is a Philadelphia native who moved to Camp Hill after he was assigned to Carlisle Barracks in 2012. Since retiring from the Army in 2018, he has worked as a substitute teacher, serving primarily in Harrisburg schools.
He deployed overseas multiple times to countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, and Haiti and served in the 82nd Airborne as a Master Jumpmaster and the 10th Mountain Division.
“I am a true beneficiary of all PA-10 can offer a family,” Forbes said. “I am a substitute teacher in the Harrisburg School District, my sons learned to play hockey at Twin Ponds Rink, we are regular attendees of both Ford and Mopar (car shows in) Carlisle, I live in Camp Hill and… as a 100% disabled veteran related to combat I utilize the New Cumberland Army clinic as does my family.”
This is his first run for elected office, through Forbes’ wife, Michelle, is a member of Camp Hill Borough Council.
Forbes said he’s been concerned about the dysfunction in Congress for some time, and figured the time is right now for him to offer himself as someone interested in finding a better path forward.
“My goals when elected are to introduce legislation laser focused on issues related to the PA 10th, and the only way to do this is to be a representative who understands our district’s needs,” Forbes said in a release announcing his campaign. “We don’t need outsiders or individuals who make losing this seat one of their hobbies.”
Forbes is the third veteran to announce his candidacy along with retired Marine Mike O’Brien and Army veteran Rick Coplen.
Harrisburg City Council Member and 2022 Democratic nominee Shamaine Daniels has also announced another run, while others – including former WGAL-TV news anchor Janelle Stelson and WITF senior Vice President Blake Lynch – have expressed interest in getting in the race.
