Within the next few weeks, Rep. John Galloway (D-Bucks) will resign from his state House seat to become Magisterial District Justice in Falls Twp.
And today, Donna Petrecco announced her candidacy to replace Galloway in the predominantly Democratic district.
“I am excited to announce my candidacy for State Representative in the 140th District of Pennsylvania,” said Petrecco. “My decision to run for public office is rooted in a deep commitment to the well-being and prosperity of our hometown.”
A former cheerleader for the Philadelphia Eagles, she is the first candidate to declare for the open seat in the district that includes Falls and Middletown Townships, as well as the boroughs of Morrisville and Tullytown. The race will be closely watched as Galloway’s resignation will leave the state House in a 101-101 deadlock for the majority (again).
A graduate of Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in marketing, Petrecco moved to New York City to begin a career working in marketing and PR departments of leading cosmetic brands. She returned to the area in 2005 to raise a family and returned to the workforce eight years later in real estate.
“As a lifelong resident and as a mother who has raised my daughters here in Lower Bucks County, I have witnessed both the opportunities and challenges that our hometown faces,” she said in a prepared statement.
“With Representative John Galloway set to vacate this seat in the coming weeks, we need to guarantee that we will continue to have a strong voice in Harrisburg fighting for us.
“I believe that public service is a privilege and an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those I seek to represent. Our government needs to work better for us to ensure that no one forgets about how important and special our hometown is, and that our tax dollars are being spent on the services that we can actually see.”
Petrecco has served as deputy chair and committee person for the Falls Township Democrats, as well as participating on the board of the Historic Preservation Committee of Falls Township. In 2021, she was appointed to the Bucks County Housing Authority by the Bucks County Commissioners and currently serves as the Vice Chair.”
