In a two-page brief, Pennsylvania Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-14) has introduced a bill that would rename Dulles International Airport in Virginia as “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

Reschenthaler, who serves as the House GOP Chief Deputy Whip, has six GOP co-sponsors for House Bill 7845 which has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” Reschenthaler said in a statement.

Democrats were not as enthusiastic.

“Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat who represents part of Dulles.

Dulles opened in 1962 and was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy with former President Dwight D. Eisenhower in attendance. The airport’s main terminal is a regional landmark designed by Eero Saarinen, who also designed the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

Dulles boasts the most international passenger traffic of any airport in the Mid-Atlantic outside the New York metropolitan area, according to the Department of Transpiration in 2016.
